The Upper East Regional Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Abraham Lambon, has called on government appointees under President John Dramani Mahama’s administration to ensure that loyal party members who sacrificed during the party’s years in opposition benefit from government appointments and opportunities.
According to him, the sacrifices made by party supporters, especially the youth, during the NDC’s eight years in opposition must not be ignored now that the party has returned to power.
Mr. Lambon made the remarks during the Upper East Regional Youth and Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN) Conference held at the Nursing Training College in Bolgatanga as part of activities under the party’s “Reset Agenda.”
Addressing party faithful, TEIN executives, and youth activists, Mr. Lambon stressed the need for appointees to remain connected to the grassroots and ensure fairness in the distribution of appointments and opportunities within government.
“My plea to the appointees of President John Dramani Mahama is that he has entrusted you with responsibility to help ordinary Ghanaians and also ensure that party members who sacrificed for the party to return to power benefit from government,” he stated.
He cautioned government officials against repeating what he described as the mistakes of the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration, where, according to him, appointments were allegedly concentrated among family members and close associates.
“Don’t go and copy what the NPP government did. Make sure appointments pass through the party structures so that our youth and loyal supporters can benefit,” he emphasized.
Mr. Lambon recalled the difficult moments endured by party supporters during the opposition years, noting that several youth members dedicated their time, resources, and energy to sustain the party at the grassroots level.
He further revealed that some party faithful even lost their lives while serving and defending the interest of the NDC during the years in opposition.
According to him, it would be unfair for loyal members who worked tirelessly for the party’s victory to be sidelined after power had been regained.
“It is the youth that sacrificed for the party. Some people lost their lives in service to the NDC. If today the party is in power and appointees forget those who voted and sacrificed for the party, then we will not keep quiet,” he warned.
Mr. Lambon indicated that the youth wing would not hesitate to mobilize and demonstrate against appointees who fail to prioritize grassroots members and instead focus on rewarding family and friends.
“If appointees decide to neglect the people who sacrificed and rather share opportunities among friends and relatives, I will mobilize the youth and we will demonstrate against them. Let us reward those who truly worked for the party,” he stressed.
Touching on youth empowerment and education, the Regional Youth Organizer disclosed that the NDC Youth Wing is already fulfilling promises aimed at supporting needy students across the Upper East Region.
He announced that through the collaboration of the National Youth Organizer and the National Apprenticeship Coordinator, all tertiary institutions within the region are receiving scholarship opportunities for students.
“As we speak, every tertiary institution in the Upper East Region is getting ten scholarship slots for needy students. Out of the eleven institutions, each school is benefiting from ten slots. That is one of the fruits of the government,” he disclosed.
Mr. Lambon encouraged students and young party supporters to take advantage of the opportunities being created by the government while remaining focused and committed to personal development.
He also advised the youth to remain disciplined, hardworking, and ready to learn from experienced party leaders to prepare themselves for future leadership roles.
The conference brought together executives and members of the NDC Youth Wing, TEIN Secretariat, student leaders, and party stakeholders from across the Upper East Region to discuss youth empowerment, party mobilization, education support, and implementation of the government’s Reset Agenda.
The Upper East Regional Minister, Hon. Donatus Akamugri Atanga, who also addressed the gathering, urged TEIN members and party youth to remain loyal and committed to the ideals of the NDC.
He described TEIN members as the future leaders of both the party and the country and encouraged them to continue supporting government policies and programmes aimed at improving the lives of Ghanaians.
