Bolga East, Upper East Region – The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bolga East, Hon. Jacob Abugre Aka-eri, has reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to ensuring quality, accountability, and the timely completion of public infrastructure projects following a comprehensive monitoring tour across the district.
The inspection exercise, conducted on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, brought together the District Coordinating Director, the NDC Constituency Chairman and members of the constituency executive. According to the Assembly, the exercise forms part of a collaborative effort between the District Assembly and the Member of Parliament to monitor ongoing projects, ensure adherence to project timelines, and guarantee value for money in public spending.
Modern Police Station Nearing Completion
The team’s first stop was the construction site of the Modern Bolga East District Police Station, a flagship project being championed by the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, who is also the Member of Parliament for Bolga East, Hon. Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine.
The project, which was officially launched with a sod-cutting ceremony on April 14, 2026, is estimated to cost GH¢6 million and is expected to replace the district’s aging police infrastructure with a modern security facility.
During the inspection, the delegation observed that major structural works, including blockwork and roofing, had been substantially completed. Interior finishing works such as plastering, tiling, electrical wiring, plumbing installation, and the development of specialized operational units were also progressing steadily.
The contractor informed the team that the project is expected to be completed within five months, describing it as one of the most modern police facilities in Ghana and the first of its kind in northern Ghana.
When completed, the police station will feature a commander’s office with supporting facilities, public reception area, armoury, administrative offices, detention cells for adults and juveniles, sanitary facilities, storage rooms, a library, and a centralized electrical control system.
Hon. Aka-eri commended the contractor for the impressive pace of work, while the District Police Commander expressed appreciation to the Member of Parliament for fulfilling his commitment to improving security infrastructure in the district.
The contractor also thanked the Attorney-General for the timely release of funds and pledged to deliver the project within schedule.
Zono Thermal Facility Completed
The monitoring team later inspected the 8-seater thermal facility at Zono, where the contractor confirmed that construction had been completed and the facility is now awaiting operationalization.
DCE Pushes for Speedy Completion of Kantia CHPS Compound
At the Kantia CHPS Compound, the DCE expressed concern over delays in the execution of the project and urged the contractor to accelerate work to meet the healthcare needs of the community.
The contractor assured the delegation that the project would be completed within the next three weeks.
Work Halted at Gambigo Community Day SHS Project
The final stop was the Gambigo Community Day Senior High School, where a GETFund-funded project is underway to expand the school into a full boarding institution.
During the inspection of the dining hall project, Hon. Aka-eri raised concerns over what he described as poor workmanship and visible defects in the foundation.
As a result, he directed the contractor to immediately suspend construction and report to his office for further discussions before any work resumes.
Commitment to Accountability
Speaking after the exercise, Hon. Jacob Abugre Aka-eri emphasized that regular project monitoring remains essential to ensuring transparency, accountability, durability, and value for money in public infrastructure delivery.
He reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to working closely with government agencies, development partners, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure that all ongoing projects are completed on schedule and commissioned to improve the lives of residents across Bolga East District.
The monitoring exercise also drew praise from stakeholders, who described the new district police station as a landmark investment that will significantly strengthen policing and security delivery in the district and across the northern sector.
