New Patriotic Party (NPP) Upper East Regional Communications Director aspirant, Dr. Samuel Akonga, has accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government of taking the Upper East Region for granted and failing to adequately address the developmental needs of the people.
Dr. Akonga made the comments during a TESCON Freshers Orientation Programme held at the Bolgatanga Technical University, where he engaged with newly admitted members of the Tertiary Students Confederacy of the NPP (TESCON).
He stated that political parties must have clear collective strategies and policies aimed at improving the lives of citizens, rather than focusing only on political gains.
According to him, the government must pay serious attention to critical sectors such as healthcare, particularly the completion of ongoing projects initiated under the previous administration.
Dr. Akonga questioned why some Agenda 111 health projects, which he said had reached between 60 and 70 percent completion, could not be prioritised to improve access to healthcare for residents.
“If most of these Agenda 111 projects were almost about 60 to 70 percent complete, why can’t this government take the health of the people and citizens of this community very seriously?” he asked.
He urged government to consider the needs of communities and ensure that development projects that directly benefit citizens are not abandoned.
The NPP communicator hopeful further assured party members that, if elected as the Upper East Regional Communications Director, he would build a strong and coordinated communication team with greater involvement of the youth.
He said his leadership would provide opportunities for young communicators to take up key roles, while ensuring effective coordination and a unified approach to communicating the party’s policies and messages across the region.
Dr. Akonga added that empowering young people within the party’s communication structure would help strengthen the NPP’s grassroots engagement and prepare the next generation of party communicators.
