Honourable Edward Azua Akolgo has formally declared his intention to contest for the position of Secretary of the Talensi Constituency, presenting himself as a unifying administrator with deep roots in party structures and community work.
Speaking on the Bluewaves Breakfast Show, Akolgo said the time had come for constituents to elect executives who can strengthen the party’s internal organisation. He positioned himself as the candidate best equipped for the role, citing his experience as a communicator on both the constituency and regional communication teams, his earlier service as branch secretary, and his long-standing work as an assembly member and youth activist since 2004.
“The Secretary is the administrator of the party,” Akolgo stated. “The Secretary must be able to pull everybody together left, right, back and forward so that we can work assiduously to achieve greater results for the party.” He emphasised the need for someone with a firm grasp of local issues who knows “the nooks and crannies of the district” and can set a clear research and organisational agenda.
Akolgo highlighted his record-keeping and communication skills, describing himself as a strong writer and communicator who would combine both strengths to build an effective secretariat. He stressed the importance of proper documentation and ensuring that all necessary party work is completed and recorded.
Addressing internal challenges, he noted that the constituency currently lacks strong organisation and unity among executives. He presented himself as humble, assertive and focused someone capable of resolving problems while maintaining peace among stakeholders. “Sometimes you can disagree to agree, but at a point you must arrive at a point that is best for the party, not best for an individual,” he said.
Central to his vision is closer and more consistent engagement with the grassroots. Akolgo pledged regular interaction between constituency and branch executives to stay abreast of evolving community needs in areas such as Pwalugu, Duusi, Winkogo, Gare Gbane, Baare, Tongo, Yameriga, Sheega, Gayet and Tindongo. He warned that delays in communication create friction and leave ordinary members feeling unheard.
He also proposed an annual delegates’ congress at which constituency executives would present a clear catalogue of achievements from the previous year, fostering accountability and collective ownership.
Akolgo framed the Secretary’s role as demanding, particularly in a constituency with vast rural communities, and said it requires temperament, experience and the ability to listen while guiding consensus. Drawing on his work with youth and assembly members, he said he has consistently brought people together without segregation, including during periods of scarcity.
“I am coming to set the record straight, to think outside the box, to do what the Secretary is supposed mod to do, and also to work more broadly,” he concluded, appealing for support and votes.
Akolgo’s declaration comes as the Talensi Constituency prepares for internal elections, with candidates expected to intensify outreach in the coming period.
