Cardinal Namdini Rejects Pollution Claims, Calls for Dialogue Over Demonstration

The Corporate Social Responsibility Manager for Cardinal Namdini Mining Limited, Mr. Kofi Adusie, has dismissed allegations that the company is polluting water bodies in the Talensi District, describing the claims circulating on social media as false and misleading.

Responding to concerns raised by demonstrators, Mr. Adusie stated that recent videos and photographs alleging chemical spillage into rivers near the mining site did not originate from the company’s operational area.

According to him, officials from the Minerals Commission and the Environmental Protection Agency visited the site to investigate the allegations and confirmed that the images and videos being circulated were not from Cardinal Namdini Mining’s environment.

“Recently, we saw on social media allegations that we are spilling chemicals into water bodies. The Minerals Commission and EPA came here to investigate and confirmed that the pictures and videos were not from our operational area because we do not even have streams around here,” he explained.

Mr. Adusie further noted that the company operates a properly constructed Tailings Storage Facility (TSF), approved by regulatory authorities, where all mining waste is deposited in line with environmental safety standards.

He stressed that the company’s gold production activities are fully monitored and regulated by government institutions, adding that all production and export processes are documented and supervised.

“The fact that we are producing gold does not mean the government is unaware. The government knows how much gold we produce and where it goes. All documentation regarding exports is properly done,” he said.

Touching on the recent demonstration by members of the Talensi Mining Communities Initiative (TAMCI), Mr. Adusie described demonstrations as a “last resort” and encouraged residents to rather use dialogue and established communication channels to address concerns.

He explained that the company maintains regular engagement with community leaders and residents through Social Responsibility Agreement meetings where development projects and community benefits are discussed collectively.

According to him, host communities themselves have requested that corporate social responsibility projects benefit the entire Talensi District rather than only a few communities directly affected by mining activities.

Mr. Adusie also clarified that the company does not influence the selection of community representatives involved in negotiations or consultations.

“It is not the company that appoints people to represent the communities. The communities themselves choose their traditional leaders and representatives together with the District Assembly,” he stated.

He assured residents that Cardinal Namdini Mining Limited remains open to engagement and is always prepared to explain its operations and respond to concerns raised by community members.
