AG PLEDGES TO BUILD MODERN POLICE HEADQUARTERS IN BOLGATANGA EAST

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Bolgatanga East Constituency, Hon. Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, has committed to constructing a state-of-the-art District Police Headquarters and Detention Center in the Bolgatanga East District. As the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Hon. Ayine voiced strong concerns regarding the outdated and inadequate facilities at the current District Police Commander’s office, which, he argued, fall short of modern police service standards.

Hon. Ayine further criticized the poor conditions of the district’s police detention facilities. “I am deeply dissatisfied with the current state of the detention cells. It is vital that we establish a modern, humane detention center that ensures the dignity of detainees, as they are entitled to their human rights even while in custody,” he remarked.

In a recent meeting with the District Police Commander, the MP reaffirmed his commitment to improving the welfare and operational capacity of the police in the region. To kickstart the project, Hon. Ayine visited the police office accompanied by architects to assess the site for the new facility, which will include administrative offices, a detention center, and a garage for seized vehicles and motorcycles.

The MP emphasized that the planning and design phase would begin immediately, contingent on securing funding approval. He revealed that financing for the project would be sought from financial institutions, following his appeal for support.

Additionally, the District Police Commander expressed gratitude for the proposed facility but highlighted a pressing concern: the inadequate number of officers. With just 20 officers currently on staff, the commander underscored the need for more personnel to effectively manage crime, particularly in areas such as Dachio and Zuarungu Moshie.

Hon. Ayine assured the commander that he had already discussed the personnel shortage with the relevant authorities and would work towards addressing the issue.

In a gesture of support, the Attorney General also donated food supplies and an undisclosed financial contribution to the district’s police officers.

Accompanying Hon. Ayine during the visit were the District Chief Executive for Bolgatanga East, Hon. Jacob Abugre Aka-eri, and Constituency Chairman, Hon. Isaac Azure Ayelatoe.
