Construction of Girls’ Model School Complex Begins in Katanga, Bolgatanga East District

The Bolgatanga East District has taken a major step toward advancing girls’ education with the commencement of construction works on a Girls’ Model School Complex at Katanga in the Upper East Region.

The project, initiated under the leadership of the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Jacob Abugre Aka-eri, is expected to significantly improve access to quality education for girls in the district and strengthen ongoing efforts to promote gender equity in education.

Speaking on the development, Hon. Aka-eri described the project as a strategic intervention aimed at empowering the girl child with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to compete favourably in an increasingly globalised world. He noted that, when completed, the school will serve as a centre of excellence dedicated to nurturing female students and enhancing educational outcomes within the district.

The DCE disclosed that the project is being undertaken through the *Ministry of Education, led by the sector minister, **Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, with funding support from the *Ghana Accountability for Learning Outcomes Project (GALOP). He commended the ministry for prioritising initiatives that directly address educational gaps, particularly in underserved communities.

A key highlight of the project is the critical role played by the Assemblyman for the Katanga Electoral Area, Hon. Roger Assibi Akazabre, who successfully facilitated the acquisition of land for the construction of the school. His efforts, in collaboration with local landowners, ensured the smooth release of land for the project—an achievement often regarded as a major hurdle in community development initiatives.

Hon. Aka-eri expressed profound gratitude to the traditional authorities and landowners for their willingness to release the land in the interest of development, describing their gesture as a selfless contribution that will yield long-term benefits for present and future generations.

He also extended appreciation to Hon. Haruna Iddrisu for championing policies and projects that promote inclusive education, particularly those focused on girls’ education.

The Girls’ Model School Complex is expected to transform the educational landscape of Bolgatanga East District by creating a conducive learning environment that supports academic excellence, personal development, and social empowerment for girls.
