In a significant boost to education in the Talensi District, the Member of Parliament for Talensi, Honourable Daniel Dung Mahama, together with the District Chief Executive, Honourable John Millim Nabwomya, officially commissioned and handed over a fully furnished school block to the Gbee community in the Upper East Region.
The new school facility, equipped with modern classrooms and furniture, is expected to provide a conducive learning environment for pupils in the area and ease the pressure on existing school infrastructure. The commissioning ceremony drew local leaders, education stakeholders, and residents who lauded the collaborative effort between the MP and the District Assembly.
At the event, the chief of Gbee, Naaba Nkenyolong-Kupelizor, expressed profound gratitude to both the MP and the DCE for fulfilling a key promise to the community. “I am so grateful to the MP and DCE for this project. It will go a long way to help the community in the area of education,” the chief told the media. He emphasized the importance of such interventions in improving educational standards in rural communities.
Speaking after the commissioning, Honourable Daniel Dung Mahama highlighted his concern over the historical neglect of basic education infrastructure in many parts of the country. He noted that the government’s renewed focus on education under President John Dramani Mahama provides hope for addressing these long-standing challenges. The MP pledged continued support for education within the constituency and promised more developmental projects for the Gbee community.

“I want to add that maintenance culture is a very big problem in this country, so I urge the assembly member and the school authorities to take good care of this edifice,” he stated, stressing the need for proper upkeep to ensure the longevity of public projects.
The District Chief Executive, Honourable John Millim Nabwomya, commended the MP and his team for their commitment to timely execution of developmental projects. He further assured residents that the District Assembly is working diligently to complete all abandoned or stalled projects across the district. “We are working hard to ensure that all abandoned projects are completed on time,” he said, emphasizing the Assembly’s dedication to sustainable development in Talensi.

Community members at the ceremony expressed optimism that the new school block will improve learning outcomes, reduce overcrowding, and foster a better teaching and learning environment. The project stands as a testament to the collaboration between political leadership and local authorities in delivering essential social infrastructure to rural communities.
With the handover of the Gbee school block, residents hope that future interventions will continue to prioritize education and the overall development of the Talensi District.
