MP Nikyema Billa Alamzy Highlights One-Year Development Gains at Sirigu Naba’s Azuko Festival

The Member of Parliament for the Chiana–Paga Constituency, Mr. Nikyema Billa Alamzy, has outlined a wide range of development interventions undertaken within his first year in office, underscoring his determination to deliver tangible improvements to the lives of constituents despite what he described as severe resource constraints.

Mr. Alamzy made these remarks at the maiden Azuko Festival of the Sirigu Naba, an event that also marked the chief’s 10th anniversary on the skin. The colourful gathering drew traditional rulers, opinion leaders, and residents from across the area, serving both as a celebration of cultural heritage and a platform for dialogue on development.

Addressing the gathering, the MP said his office, in close collaboration with constituency executives and the District Chief Executive, has focused on priority sectors including education, water, health, agriculture, electricity, and sports development. He noted that these interventions were guided by the most pressing needs of communities within the constituency.

On infrastructure, Mr. Alamzy disclosed that several schools and chief palaces across the district have been renovated to improve learning environments and preserve traditional authority structures. He added that a number of communities have also received financial support to facilitate their connection to the national electricity grid, a move aimed at enhancing economic activity and improving living standards.

In the water sector, the MP reported significant progress, announcing the construction of new boreholes and the repair of more than 80 broken ones. He said these interventions have substantially improved access to safe and potable water in many rural communities, reducing the burden on women and children.

Touching on education, Mr. Alamzy revealed that five brilliant but needy students from the constituency are currently enjoying full scholarships to pursue specialized programmes such as law, medicine, engineering, and economics—courses that had not previously been represented among beneficiaries from the area. In addition, 169 tertiary students have received partial scholarships covering 50 percent of their academic fees.

In the health sector, the MP said his office has organized free eye screening exercises for residents, particularly targeting vulnerable groups. He further announced that a contract has been awarded to a constituent for the supply of 630 benches to health facilities and Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds across the district, aimed at improving patient comfort and service delivery.

On agriculture, Mr. Alamzy indicated that farmers have benefited from fertilizer support, including the recent distribution of 2,000 bags to boost food production. He also mentioned the donation of water pumping machines to support dry-season farming, as part of efforts to enhance food security and livelihoods.

Women’s economic empowerment, he stressed, remains a key pillar of his development agenda. According to the MP, more than 220 women have recently received financial support of GHS2,000 each to expand their farming and small-scale business activities. He also announced the donation of a shed to house a grain mill for women in Nabango, to ease post-harvest processing and increase income generation.

Mr. Alamzy also highlighted progress in sports development, revealing that a talented young footballer from the constituency has been supported to travel to Europe for trials and has since been absorbed by a club, with negotiations currently ongoing. He emphasized that the support was not motivated by financial gain but intended to inspire discipline and encourage young people to pursue sports as a viable career path.

In his concluding remarks, the MP reaffirmed his party’s commitment to national development under the leadership of former President John Dramani Mahama, aligning his constituency-level initiatives with what he described as a broader national “reset” agenda. He urged residents of Chiana–Paga to remain hopeful, united, and supportive as efforts continue to advance development across the constituency.
