NDC Upper East Communications Bureau Holds Annual Retreat to Strengthen Grassroots Messaging

The Upper East Regional Communications Bureau of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has organised its annual retreat for Constituency Communications Officers (CCOs) as part of sustained efforts to reinforce the party’s communication structures and enhance effective information delivery in an increasingly complex media landscape.

The retreat, held at the TAP Hotel, brought together constituency-level communicators from across the region to assess emerging trends in political communication, refine messaging strategies, and align grassroots communication efforts with the party’s broader objectives ahead of critical political engagements.

Addressing participants, the Upper East Regional Communications Officer of the NDC, Mr. Jonathan Abdallah Salifu, described the retreat as a strategic intervention aimed at equipping party communicators with the requisite skills and tools to navigate the fast-evolving nature of information dissemination.

He noted that the rapid growth of digital media, social networking platforms, and real-time news sharing has significantly transformed political communication, making it imperative for party communicators to remain proactive, accurate, and disciplined in their messaging.

“Information delivery is no longer static. The dynamics continue to change, and as communicators, we must understand these shifts, master them, and use them effectively to project the message of the NDC,” Mr. Abdallah Salifu stated.

He identified misinformation, disinformation, and propaganda—particularly on social media—as some of the major challenges confronting political communication, stressing the need for constituency communicators to counter false narratives with facts, clarity, and consistency.

Mr. Abdallah Salifu further emphasised that CCOs serve as the frontline voices of the party at the grassroots level, making their role pivotal in shaping public opinion, sustaining trust, and strengthening the party’s relationship with supporters and the wider electorate.

He added that the retreat also sought to foster unity, coordination, and professionalism within the party’s communication machinery, ensuring consistency and coherence between national, regional, and constituency-level messaging.

Participants were taken through a series of sessions covering strategic communication, message framing, media engagement, crisis communication, and the responsible use of social media. The retreat also provided a platform for experience-sharing, peer learning, and practical discussions on communication challenges faced in various constituencies.

The annual retreat forms part of the NDC Communications Bureau’s broader commitment to building a robust, responsive, and modern communication network capable of effectively engaging the electorate and articulating the party’s policies, achievements, and vision for Ghana.

Organisers expressed confidence that the retreat would empower Constituency Communications Officers with renewed confidence and enhanced skills to effectively project the NDC’s message across the Upper East Region.
