NHIA Set to Hit the Streets of Bolgatanga on Automatic Renewal Service

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) is gearing up to engage residents of Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region, focusing on the vital topic of the Automatic Renewal Service. Scheduled for Thursday, October 30, 2025, this initiative aims to educate locals on how to seamlessly subscribe to this crucial service using the simple short code *929#.

During an exclusive interview on the BlueWaves Breakfast Show, Mr. Emmanuel Amangbey, the Regional Monitoring and Evaluation Officer at the NHIA, passionately articulated the significance of the Automatic Renewal Service within the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). He expressed concern about the common situation where individuals only discover that their insurance has lapsed when they are in dire need of medical attention at a hospital. “This situation can be extremely frustrating and disheartening,” he lamented.

Mr. Roland Ayeni, the Bolgatanga Municipal Manager of the NHIA, also joined the conversation, urging residents to take full advantage of the opportunity to enrol in the Automatic Renewal Service. He highlighted that dedicated NHIA staff would be mobilised across the streets of Bolgatanga on Thursday morning, beginning at 8 a.m. Their outreach will cover key areas, including the bustling Bolgatanga market, the lorry station, and various strategic locations throughout the municipality, ensuring that citizens have ample opportunity to subscribe to the system.

In his closing remarks, Mr. Ayeni encouraged community members to promptly report any issues or irregularities encountered while accessing healthcare services with their valid NHIS cards. He assured that the NHIA is committed to addressing such concerns and implementing the necessary measures to enhance the experience of insured individuals.

This initiative not only seeks to raise awareness of the Automatic Renewal Service but also aims to foster a stronger connection between the NHIA and the community — ultimately ensuring that everyone has continuous access to essential healthcare services.
