The Ghanaian government has officially sanctioned a 9 percent salary increase for all public sector employees under the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) for the fiscal year 2026. This increase marks a significant development in wage adjustments aimed at enhancing the welfare of public sector workers.
In conjunction with this salary adjustment, the National Tripartite Committee has reached a consensus to raise the national daily minimum wage by 9 percent, increasing it from GH₵19.97 to GH₵21.77. This adjustment will take effect from January 1 to December 31, 2026, and is part of ongoing efforts to ensure that workers’ earnings reflect the rising cost of living.
The agreement, which was formalized on November 9, 2025, was signed by key representatives from the government, including the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) and the Ministry of Finance (MoF), as well as members of Organised Labour. This negotiation process was pivotal in fostering stability and fairness within the public sector, addressing the pressing concerns of workers effectively.
During an appearance on the BlueWaves Breakfast Show, Mr. Isaac Ayemvoa, a dedicated teacher and the Bolgatanga Central constituency secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), expressed his support for the 9 percent pay increase. However, he cautioned that Organised Labour must consistently prioritize the interests and welfare of their members. He emphasized the importance of advocacy and vigilance to ensure that the gains achieved through negotiations are safeguarded for the benefit of all workers within the public sector.
