PURC Holds Public Hearing on 2025–2030 Tariff Review in Bolgatanga

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has held a public hearing in Bolgatanga, the capital of the Upper East Region, to gather feedback on the proposed tariff adjustments for the period 2025–2030. The event brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including traditional leaders, associations, journalists, and civil society organizations.

The hearing, which aimed to provide a platform for stakeholders to contribute to the tariff review process, was attended by Hon. Nana Yaa Jantuah, Senior Presidential Staffer, Board Member, and Chairperson of the PURC Stakeholder Committee. In her address, Hon. Jantuah commended the people of the Upper East Region for their continued support for government policies, particularly regarding tariff adjustments.

The proposed tariff adjustments, submitted by utility companies including NEDCo, GRIDCo, VRA, and GWCL, are expected to shape the country’s energy sector over the next five years. The public hearing was intended to help stakeholders understand the rationale behind the proposed adjustments and provide input on the matter.

Some participants at the hearing sought clarification on the justification for the proposed tariff increases, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability in the regulatory process. The PURC’s engagement with stakeholders through such public hearings reflects its commitment to ensuring that citizens’ voices are heard and considered in decision-making.

The public hearing marks a crucial step in the tariff review process, enabling the PURC to gather valuable feedback and make informed decisions that balance the interests of utility providers, consumers, and the broader economy. As Ghana’s energy sector continues to evolve, the outcome of this hearing will have significant implications for the nation’s economic development and the well-being of its citizens.
