A heavy rainstorm has ripped off the roofs of three key offices at the Kassena Nankana West District Assembly, rendering them unusable.
The incident occurred at approximately 6:10 p.m. on Thursday, following a sudden downpour accompanied by strong winds that swept through the area.
According to initial reports, one officer who was still at post at the time of the incident quickly raised an alarm and contacted colleagues, prompting an emergency response to salvage important documents and office equipment from the affected buildings.
Thanks to the swift intervention, several vital records and items were secured and moved to safer locations to prevent further damage.
The offices affected by the storm include that of the District Coordinating Director, the District Budget Analyst, and the District Planning Office—three critical departments responsible for the administration, financial planning, and development coordination of the district.
The extent of damage to the buildings has left the offices temporarily out of use, raising concerns about potential disruptions to administrative work and service delivery within the district.
Residents and staff described the rainstorm as intense, with strong winds powerful enough to cause structural damage.
As of now, officials of the Assembly are expected to assess the full extent of the destruction and take steps toward rehabilitation and restoration of the affected offices.
No injuries have been reported in connection with the incident.
Authorities are also likely to put in place interim measures to ensure that essential administrative functions continue while efforts are made to repair the damaged structures.
The incident highlights the increasing impact of extreme weather conditions on public infrastructure in the Upper East Region, raising concerns about the need for more resilient building designs and preparedness measures.
