Five Upper East MPs Yet to Declare Assets as Non-Compliance Persists in Parliament

More than a year after the current administration assumed office, concerns are mounting over widespread non-compliance with asset declaration laws among Members of Parliament, with over half yet to meet the constitutional requirement.

A recent investigation by The Fourth Estate has revealed that 151 out of the 276 lawmakers in Ghana’s current Parliament have failed to declare their assets and liabilities, in violation of provisions aimed at promoting transparency and curbing corruption in public office.

Among those cited are six Members of Parliament from the Upper East Region who are yet to comply with the legal obligation. They include Thomas Winsum Anabah, Nikyema Billa Alamzy, Issifu Mahmoud, Ebenezer Alumire Ndebilla, and Daniel Dung Mahama.

The failure to declare assets within the stipulated timeframe constitutes a breach of Ghana’s anti-corruption framework, which requires public office holders to disclose their wealth upon assumption of office to ensure accountability and prevent illicit enrichment.

The report has sparked renewed calls for stricter enforcement of the law and sanctions against defaulters to uphold integrity within the country’s governance system.
