The District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Talensi District in the Upper East Region, Hon. John Millim Nabwomya, has praised farmers in the area for their dedication and resilience in advancing agricultural activities. He made the commendation during the 41st National Farmers’ Day celebration held in the district.
Delivering his congratulatory message, Hon. Nabwomya highlighted key measures adopted by farmers to boost agriculture in the district. He noted that in the area of livestock production, a total of 8,870 sheep and goats were vaccinated against pests and diseases. Additionally, 2,117 birds were targeted and vaccinated as part of efforts to strengthen animal health and improve productivity.
As part of the awards ceremony, the DCE presented a tricycle (motorking), four pairs of Wellington boots, four cutlasses, three knapsack sprayers, one bar of Key soap, a bag of NPK fertilizer, and a certificate to Godwin Zoogah, who was adjudged the Overall Best Farmer for the Talensi District. Hon. Nabwomya encouraged the youth to venture into agriculture, describing it as a viable avenue for income and employment.
Reflecting on this year’s national theme, “Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure the Future,” the DCE said the message aligns with the government’s vision of empowering farmers and making agriculture more profitable, especially for young people.
Hon. Nabwomya also emphasized the importance of integrating livestock rearing with crop farming to maximize productivity and sustain food security in the district.
He expressed gratitude to the Upper East Regional Minister, Hon. Donatus Akamugri Atanga, and the Member of Parliament for Talensi, Hon. Daniel Dung Mahama, for their continued support towards the Farmers’ Day celebration and for facilitating the selection of the district to benefit from the Farmers’ Service Centre initiative.
The DCE further acknowledged the Cardinal Namdini Mining Company Ltd and other partners for their contributions toward the success of the event.
