The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Talensi in the Upper East Region, Hon. John Millim Nabwomya, has expressed deep concern over recent security incidents recorded in parts of the district, describing the situation as worrying and unacceptable.
Speaking on the BlueWaves Breakfast Show, Hon. Nabwomya lamented a series of attacks and security disturbances in communities including Gbane, Sheaga and other affected areas within the district. According to him, these incidents pose a serious threat to the safety of residents and the overall development of Talensi.
The DCE assured residents that the District Assembly, in collaboration with the District Security Council (DISEC) and other security agencies, is actively working to address the situation and restore calm. He noted that security remains a top priority of his administration and that measures are being intensified to prevent further attacks and protect lives and property.
“We are not sitting unconcerned. I am working closely with the district security heads to salvage the situation and ensure that peace and stability return to our communities,” he stated.
Hon. Nabwomya further appealed to community members to support the security agencies by providing timely and credible information to help curb criminal activities. He emphasized that sustainable peace cannot be achieved through the efforts of authorities alone, but requires the collective commitment of all residents.
The Talensi DCE also used the platform to call for unity among the people of the district, stressing that peace and togetherness are essential ingredients for development. He explained that disunity and conflict only slow progress and undermine efforts to bring social and economic development to the area.
According to him, when communities work together in harmony, it becomes easier for government and development partners to implement projects that improve livelihoods and enhance the welfare of the people.
Hon. Nabwomya urged traditional leaders, opinion leaders, youth groups and other stakeholders to play active roles in promoting peace and cohesion, assuring them of his administration’s readiness to engage all sides in the interest of development.
He concluded by reiterating his commitment to ensuring a peaceful Talensi, where residents can go about their daily activities without fear, and called on all citizens to place the collective interest of the district above individual or group differences.
