Talensi MP and DCE Commission 30-Bed Children’s Ward at Talensi District Hospital

The Member of Parliament for Talensi, Daniel Dung Mahama, together with the District Chief Executive, John Millim Nabwomya, has commissioned an ultra-modern 30-bed capacity children’s ward at the Talensi District Hospital in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region to enhance healthcare delivery for children in the area.

The new facility is expected to significantly improve pediatric healthcare services in the district and provide a more conducive environment for the treatment and care of children. The hospital serves as a key referral centre for several Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds and other health facilities across the district.

Speaking to the media after the commissioning ceremony, the Talensi MP, Hon. Daniel Dung Mahama, expressed satisfaction with the successful completion of the project, describing it as a major step toward strengthening healthcare delivery in the district.

He emphasized the importance of quality healthcare infrastructure, particularly for children, and urged health personnel at the facility to ensure the ward is properly utilized for the benefit of the community.

“This hospital serves as a referral point for many CHPS compounds and health facilities within the district. It is therefore important that the facility is used effectively to provide quality healthcare services to our people, especially our children,” he stated.

Hon. Mahama reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the health sector in the Talensi District and pledged to continue advocating for more resources and infrastructure to improve healthcare delivery.

The District Chief Executive for Talensi, Hon. John Millim Nabwomya, also expressed his excitement at the completion of the project, noting that the commissioning of the children’s ward fulfills a key promise made to residents of the district.

Mr. Nabwomya recalled the challenges previously faced by the hospital due to the lack of a well-equipped pediatric ward and said the situation often placed significant strain on healthcare workers and affected the quality of care provided to young patients.

According to him, children are among the most vulnerable members of society and deserve special attention when it comes to healthcare.

“Children are very vulnerable in our society, and seeing them struggle to receive proper care has always been worrying. With this well-furnished children’s ward, we believe the hospital is now better positioned to provide improved healthcare services for them,” he said.

On her part, the Talensi District Director of the Ghana Health Service, Madam Juliana Akugre Anam-Erime, expressed appreciation to the Member of Parliament and the District Chief Executive for responding positively to the district’s request for improved healthcare infrastructure.

She noted that the new ward would greatly enhance the hospital’s capacity to care for children and improve overall health outcomes in the district.

Madam Anam-Erime further assured the public that the health directorate and staff of the hospital would ensure that the facility is well maintained and used effectively to serve the people of Talensi and surrounding communities.

The commissioning ceremony attracted health workers, traditional leaders, assembly members, and residents of the district, who welcomed the project as a significant boost to healthcare delivery in the area.
