The Talensi Constituency Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Augustine Guure, has officially declared his intention to contest for the position of Constituency Chairman ahead of the party’s 2026 internal elections.
Mr. Guure made his intentions known in a statement published on his Facebook page, a move he later confirmed in a WhatsApp interaction with BlueWaves Radio’s Maurice Duncan. In the statement, he expressed deep appreciation to party members in the Talensi Constituency for the confidence reposed in him over the past four years, describing his tenure as constituency secretary as a period of committed and selfless service to the party.
Reflecting on his political journey, Mr. Guure highlighted his extensive experience within the NDC, having served in several capacities at both the constituency and regional levels. These include his roles as a former member of the “Other Eight” executive body, former president of the National Democratic Students’ Association of Ghana (NDC wing), a member of the Regional Communications Team, and the Regional Research Team.
Beyond party structures, Mr. Guure is also an active participant in local governance. He currently serves as the Assembly Member for the Sheaga Electoral Area in the Talensi District Assembly and chairs the Sub-Security and Justice Committee, positions that, according to him, have further sharpened his leadership and governance experience.
In declaring his bid for the chairmanship, Mr. Guure described the move as a “promotion” that would enable him to continue serving the party at a higher leadership level. He noted that in the coming weeks, he would formally engage party executives and delegates across the constituency to outline his vision and seek their support.
He also used the opportunity to call for unity and renewed commitment among party faithful, urging members to rally behind the NDC’s “Reset Agenda,” which he said remains central to the party’s quest to reposition itself and deliver on its broader national objectives.
Mr. Guure concluded his message with a strong appeal for solidarity and collective effort, invoking the core values and spirit of the NDC. His declaration signals the opening of what is expected to be a keenly contested internal race as the Talensi Constituency prepares for the 2026 constituency elections.
