The Upper East Regional Police Command has issued a strong warning to criminals operating in the region ahead of the Christmas and New Year festivities, assuring residents that the Police are fully prepared to confront criminal activities with equal force.
Speaking on the Blue Waves Breakfast Show, the Upper East Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Police Service, Chief Inspector Abdul Rahman Sumaila, expressed concern over the rising incidence of crime in the region, particularly the increasing cases of motorbike snatching.
Chief Inspector Sumaila described the situation as disturbing and called on residents, especially those in the Bolgatanga Municipality, to actively support the Police by volunteering credible information about criminal activities and suspects to aid ongoing security operations.
He further appealed to chiefs, opinion leaders, event organisers, and bar owners to inform the Police in advance whenever festivals, social gatherings, or public events are planned. This, he explained, will enable the Police Command to deploy adequate personnel to ensure maximum security during such occasions.
The Police PRO also advised residents to avoid unnecessary late-night activities during the festive season and urged the public to promptly alert the Police whenever they observe or suspect criminal activity in their communities.
Chief Inspector Sumaila disclosed that the Regional Police Command is working to revive and strengthen community volunteer groups across the region. According to him, these groups will assist the Police at the community level and help deepen collaboration and trust between the Police Service and the public.
He further advised residents to prioritise their safety during attacks, particularly by surrendering their motorbikes when confronted by criminals, and immediately reporting such incidents by calling the Police emergency line 191 to enable swift response and tracking.
The Upper East Regional Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a peaceful and crime-free festive season and called on the public to remain vigilant and cooperative.
