Upper East Residents Urged to Leverage Social Media to Promote Tourism – GTA Director

The Upper East Regional Director of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Joseph Appiagyei, has called on residents of the region to harness the power of social media to promote its rich tourism potential.

Speaking on the Bluewaves Breakfast Show on BlueWaves Radio 93.7 FM, Mr. Appiagyei emphasized that social media remains a powerful tool that can be used to showcase the numerous tourist sites in the Upper East Region to a wider audience.

He urged residents to take advantage of digital platforms by sharing content that highlights the cultural heritage, historical landmarks, and natural attractions within the region. According to him, increased online visibility can significantly boost tourism and attract both local and international visitors.

Mr. Appiagyei also encouraged journalists in the region to develop a keen interest in tourism reporting, stressing that consistent media coverage can help position the Upper East Region as a key destination in Ghana’s tourism landscape.

He commended the people of the region for their hospitality and warmth, noting that their welcoming nature is an added advantage for tourism development.

“The people of the Upper East Region are loving and caring. I’m happy to be here,” he stated.

Despite the region’s tourism potential, Mr. Appiagyei expressed concern that many residents have not taken the time to explore some of the notable tourist sites within their own communities.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Upper East Regional Director of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Azika Joseph, also called on relevant authorities to intensify efforts to develop the tourism sector.

He noted that tourism contributes significantly to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and, if properly developed, could serve as a major driver of economic growth and job creation.
