Talensi DCE Calls for Collective Responsibility During National Sanitation Day Exercise

The District Chief Executive for Talensi, John Millim Nabwomya, has called on residents of the district to take personal responsibility for maintaining clean surroundings in order to promote good health and sustainable development.

Hon. Nabwomya made the remarks during the National Sanitation Day exercise held in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region, where assembly members, sanitation officers, youth groups, and residents joined hands to clean parts of the district.

Speaking during the exercise, the Talensi DCE emphasized that environmental cleanliness should not be seen as a one-day activity but rather a continuous responsibility for every individual and community.

According to him, regular sanitation campaigns are necessary to educate residents on the importance of keeping their environment clean and protecting public health.

“Each time we come out for exercises like this, we use the opportunity to educate our people on the need to keep our environment clean,” he stated.

Hon. Nabwomya noted that poor sanitation remains one of the major challenges affecting many communities and stressed that maintaining clean surroundings would help reduce the spread of diseases and improve the living conditions of residents.

He further explained that development cannot thrive in an unhealthy environment, adding that communities must work collectively to ensure proper waste disposal and cleanliness in public places.

The DCE also commended residents who participated in the exercise and encouraged community members to remain committed to sanitation activities beyond the monthly campaign.

According to him, creating a clean environment requires dedication, discipline, and cooperation from all stakeholders, including local authorities, households, and community organizations.

“That is how communities can achieve a clean environment. Everyone must be dedicated and understand their role in keeping our surroundings clean,” he added.

The National Sanitation Day exercise in Talensi forms part of efforts by the government and local authorities to improve sanitation standards, promote environmental cleanliness, and encourage active community participation in waste management activities across the country.
