PUSIGA DCE URGES GHANAIANS TO SEE DISTRICT AS ONE OF GHANA’S TOP TOURISM DESTINATIONS

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Pusiga, Abdul Rahim Haruna Aguuri, has called on Ghanaians to begin viewing Pusiga as one of the country’s leading tourism destinations, citing the district’s rich cultural, historical, and natural attractions.

According to the DCE, Pusiga is endowed with several unique tourist sites that have remained largely under-promoted, denying the district the recognition it deserves on Ghana’s tourism map.

He highlighted the Naa Gbewaa Shrine as one of the district’s major attractions, noting that people from across Ghana and beyond visit the shrine to seek spiritual guidance and blessings.

Mr. Aguuri also pointed to the Widana Crocodile Pond, where crocodiles are believed to emerge from the water on Thursdays and Fridays, giving visitors the rare opportunity to observe and photograph them under safe conditions.

He further mentioned the historic Kulungugu Bomb Site, where Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, survived an assassination attempt in 1962. The site, he said, remains a significant landmark in the country’s political history.

The DCE added that Pusiga is home to several traditional weaving centres where artisans produce a variety of indigenous fabrics and the renowned northern smocks, showcasing the district’s rich cultural heritage.

Mr. Aguuri appealed to Ghanaians, tourists, and tourism stakeholders to include Pusiga among the country’s must-visit destinations, stressing that the district offers a unique blend of history, culture, wildlife, and tradition.

He expressed confidence that anyone who visits Pusiga for tourism would leave with memorable experiences and a renewed appreciation of the district’s enormous tourism potential.
