Engineer Filson Apambila Awankua, a respected engineer, businessman and leading figure within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has officially declared his intention to contest the position of Upper East Regional Chairman of the party, promising to unite the party, strengthen its grassroots structures and position it for victory in the 2028 general elections.
The declaration, held alongside the launch of his official campaign website, brought together party elders, patrons, constituency executives, TESCON members, party communicators and supporters from across the Upper East Region.
Addressing the gathering, Ing. Awankua described the occasion as “more than the launch of a website,” saying it marked the beginning of a movement aimed at rebuilding the NPP in the region through unity, strategic leadership and effective grassroots engagement.
“Today is not just the launch of a website; today is the launch of a movement. A movement rooted in unity, driven by grassroots energy and anchored in the unshakable belief that the Upper East Region can and will deliver for the NPP in 2028,” he declared.
Party Communicators Must Be Empowered
A significant portion of Ing. Awankua’s address focused on party communicators, whom he described as the frontline defenders of the NPP.
He acknowledged the enormous sacrifices made by communicators in defending the party’s policies and reputation on radio, television, social media and within local communities.
According to him, despite their commitment, many communicators have operated without adequate logistical support, coordinated messaging and direct access to party leadership.
He pledged that under his leadership, communicators would receive structured support through a dedicated communications desk, coordinated messaging systems, regular training and stronger engagement with the regional leadership.
“You are not just spokespersons; you are the architects of perception, the defenders of our party’s image and the bridge between the NPP and the people,” he said.
Six-Pillar Vision for the Upper East NPP
Ing. Awankua unveiled a comprehensive six-point agenda which he said would guide his administration if elected Regional Chairman.
The first pillar focuses on grassroots empowerment, where he pledged to strengthen the party from the polling station level by investing in training, logistics and motivation for party executives and activists.
The second pillar is party unity and reconciliation. He stressed the need to heal divisions within the NPP through dialogue, inclusion and mutual respect.
“A united NPP is a stronger NPP, and every member, regardless of faction or constituency, must feel valued and heard,” he stated.
His third pillar centres on youth and women empowerment, promising leadership development programmes, entrepreneurship support and greater opportunities for young people and women to assume leadership roles within the party.
The fourth pillar targets infrastructure and regional development, where he pledged to advocate for improved roads, educational facilities, healthcare infrastructure and other developmental projects across the Upper East Region.
The fifth pillar outlines an electoral victory strategy built on data-driven planning, voter education, grassroots mobilisation and constituency-specific campaign strategies designed to return the NPP to power in 2028.
Finally, Ing. Awankua promised transparent and accountable leadership, assuring party members that every decision, resource and opportunity under his administration would be managed with integrity and openness.
Calm, Experienced and Inclusive Leadership
Presenting himself as a bridge-builder, Ing. Awankua said his engineering background has equipped him with the discipline, analytical skills and problem-solving abilities required to lead the party successfully.
He noted that beyond his professional qualifications, he possesses extensive political experience across every constituency in the Upper East Region and maintains strong relationships with traditional authorities, grassroots structures and party faithful.
“I bring a spirit of calm — a calm that does not retreat from difficult decisions but builds bridges and unites people. That is the kind of leadership the Upper East Region needs at this critical moment,” he said.
Strong Campaign Team Unveiled
Ing. Awankua also introduced what he described as a highly experienced and strategic campaign team to spearhead his bid for the regional chairmanship.
Former Deputy Attorney-General and Minister for Justice as well as former Member of Parliament for Tempane, Hon. Joseph Dindiok Kpemka, will serve as a key member of the campaign leadership.
The team also includes Dr. Akambe Ayirebasia as Campaign Advisor, Mr. Bawa Agana as Communications Director, Alhaji Osman Musah as Head of Special Operations, Madam Angelina Akurigo as Logistics Coordinator, and Abdullah Sandow as Head of Information Technology and Social Media.
Other members of the campaign team include Dr. Francis Anachunaba, Mr. Paul, Saint Sawanla, and Jonas Sugri.
According to Ing. Awankua, the calibre and diversity of his campaign team reflect the strategic, inclusive and results-oriented leadership he intends to provide if elected.
“Looking at the people who have accepted to work with me, you can clearly see the kind of strategic leadership I intend to offer the Upper East Regional NPP. We have assembled a competent team that is prepared to work tirelessly for victory,” he said.
Distinguished Professional Career
Beyond politics, Ing. Filson Apambila Awankua has built an impressive professional career within Ghana’s engineering sector.
He currently serves as the Upper East Regional Vice Chairman of the Ghana Institution of Engineering and is also a National Steering Committee Member of the Ghana Institution of Engineering.
In addition, he is the Chief Executive Officer of BERE-SOM Company Limited, where he has led several engineering and development initiatives.
His supporters believe his blend of technical expertise, leadership experience and business management skills positions him as the ideal candidate to rebuild and reposition the NPP in the Upper East Region.
As the race for the Upper East Regional Chairmanship gathers momentum, Ing. Awankua says his focus remains on restoring unity, empowering party structures and ensuring that the NPP returns stronger and more competitive ahead of the 2028 general elections.
