Police Arrest Suspected Drug Dealer at Paga in Upper East Region

PAGA, UPPER EAST REGION — The Upper East Regional Police Command has arrested a 36-year-old man, identified as Tumbana Ane, for allegedly engaging in the distribution of narcotic substances at Paga in the Upper East Region.

The arrest was carried out by personnel from the Regional Police Intelligence and Professional Standards Department (PID) and the Black Cobra Team as part of ongoing efforts to combat drug-related activities and other forms of criminality in the region.

According to the Police, the suspect was found in possession of 38 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp (cannabis).

Preliminary investigations, the Police said, suggest that the suspect may be involved in other illegal activities, including the alleged operation of brothels at an illegal mining site at Wuru.

A search conducted at the suspect’s residence reportedly led to the discovery of the 38 parcels of substances suspected to be Indian hemp, as well as other prohibited substances, including Tramadol 120mg and 250mg.

The Police also reportedly discovered a tunnel at the premises, which they believe was being used to conceal the suspected narcotic substances and evade detection by law enforcement officers.

Tumbana Ane is currently in Police custody and is expected to be arraigned before the court to face the appropriate charges.

The Upper East Regional Police Command has reiterated its commitment to intensifying operations against the trafficking and distribution of illicit drugs, as well as other criminal and illegal activities across the region.

The Command has also urged residents to provide credible information to the Police to support efforts to make communities safer.
