Bolgatanga MCE Commends Hon. Isaac Adongo, President Mahama Over GETFund Projects for Sherigu SHS

Bolgatanga, Upper East Region — The Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive, Roland Ayoo Atanga, has expressed profound gratitude to key stakeholders for facilitating the commencement of major infrastructure projects at the Bolga-Sherigu Community Day Senior High School, describing the intervention as timely and transformative.

Speaking at a recent ceremony to mark the start of eleven GETFund-sponsored projects at the school’s new site, the MCE lauded the Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central, Isaac Adongo, for his instrumental role in securing funding for the initiative.

“I am so grateful to my MP, Hon. Isaac Adongo, my Regional Minister, H.E John Dramani Mahama, and the good people of Sherigu for such fantastic projects,” he stated.

Hon. Ayoo emphasized that the MP’s efforts were central to the realization of the eleven projects, noting that the intervention was secured through the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) to address the school’s long-standing infrastructure challenges.

“To my Member of Parliament, I know he did a lot to secure these eleven (11) projects through GETFund,” he added.

The Bolga-Sherigu Community Day SHS has, for years, struggled with inadequate infrastructure, a situation that has significantly affected academic work and student welfare. Currently, students are compelled to attend classes in a nearby junior high school facility — an arrangement the MCE described as inappropriate for senior high school education.

“As we speak, the students are using the junior high school for their teaching and learning, which is not appropriate. But when these projects are completed, they will serve a great purpose,” he noted.

The ongoing GETFund projects are expected to drastically improve the school’s learning environment. The scope of work includes a three-storey, 18-unit classroom block, boys’ and girls’ dormitories, a two-storey administration and library complex, and improved sanitation facilities.

Hon. Ayoo further acknowledged the role of the Sherigu community, whose support and commitment, including the provision of land for the school’s relocation, have been crucial in advancing the project.

He expressed optimism that the completion of the projects would not only enhance teaching and learning but also restore dignity to students and staff who have endured years of studying and working under difficult conditions.

The intervention forms part of broader efforts to bridge infrastructure gaps in educational institutions across the Upper East Region and ensure equitable access to quality secondary education.
