Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman Paul Afoko has called on party faithful to put aside past differences and work together in the interest of the party as it prepares for the 2028 general elections.
Speaking during a meeting with party executives and members in the Upper East Region as part of his consultation tour ahead of his bid for the NPP national chairmanship, Mr. Afoko emphasized that unity remains the party’s greatest asset and the surest path to regaining political power.
Addressing the gathering, he urged members to rise above internal divisions and focus on the common objective of rebuilding the party and securing victory in the next general elections.
“We have to pull all our skills together, unite, and go in the same direction in order to regain power,” Mr. Afoko stated. “Let’s put everything behind us and unite for power.”
He stressed that the NPP’s strength lies in its collective membership and grassroots base, arguing that reconciliation and cooperation among party faithful are essential for electoral success.
Mr. Afoko’s visit to the Upper East Region forms part of a broader nationwide consultation and engagement tour as he seeks support for his return to the party’s top leadership position. During the meeting, he outlined his vision of revitalizing party structures, strengthening grassroots mobilization, and rebuilding trust among members across the country.
Party executives and supporters who attended the engagement welcomed his message, noting that fostering unity and cohesion would be critical as the NPP prepares for both its internal elections and the 2028 national polls.
Paul Afoko was elected National Chairman of the NPP on April 12, 2014. However, his tenure ended after he was indefinitely suspended by the party on October 23, 2015, following recommendations by its National Disciplinary Committee.
His renewed involvement in party activities and leadership contest has reignited conversations about the future direction of the NPP, with many observers viewing his campaign as one centered on reconciliation, organizational renewal, and the quest to position the party for a return to power in 2028.
Mr. Afoko is expected to continue his consultation tour in other regions as he engages delegates and stakeholders on his vision for the party’s future.
