We Must Praise Our MPs for Lobbying for GETFund Projects” – Stanley Abopam Urges, Calls for Cautious Optimism

A social commentator, Mr. Stanley Abopam, has called on residents of the Upper East Region to commend their Members of Parliament for their efforts in lobbying for Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) projects, describing their role as crucial in driving development within the region.

Speaking on the BlueWaves Breakfast Show, Mr. Abopam emphasized that the successful attraction of these projects reflects the commitment of MPs to addressing the persistent infrastructure challenges facing the education sector.

“We need to praise our MPs for lobbying on our behalf to secure these GETFund projects in the region,” he stated, adding that such efforts deserve recognition and continued support from constituents.

Despite the optimism surrounding the projects, Mr. Abopam urged the public to remain measured in their expectations. According to him, while the initiative presents a significant opportunity to improve educational infrastructure, past experiences serve as a reminder that not all projects are delivered as promised.

“While there is reason to be optimistic, that optimism must be approached with caution,” he noted. “I agree with those who advocate for measured excitement. If the initiative succeeds, it will be a positive development worthy of appreciation.”

He further stressed that optimism should not overshadow the need for critical thinking and accountability. Drawing from history, he pointed out that delays, abandoned projects, and substandard execution have, in some cases, affected the outcomes of similar interventions.

Mr. Abopam therefore called on stakeholders, including community members and local authorities, to closely monitor the implementation of the GETFund projects to ensure transparency, quality, and timely completion.

The Upper East Region continues to face significant challenges in the education sector, including inadequate classroom facilities, overcrowding, and schools operating under trees. As such, the successful execution of GETFund projects is expected to significantly improve teaching and learning conditions across the region.

He concluded by reiterating that while Members of Parliament deserve commendation for bringing development opportunities to the region, the ultimate success of these projects will depend on effective implementation and sustained oversight.
