The Upper East Regional Office of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), in collaboration with the Bolgatanga Municipal Office, joined the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection to register and renew National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) memberships for vulnerable residents at Dachio in the Bolgatanga East District of the Upper East Region.
The outreach, held on Tuesday, 16 June, formed part of the Ministry’s 5th Community Dialogue Series and brought renewed hope to many women and children who had previously been unable to afford NHIS registration or renewal fees. Through the initiative, numerous beneficiaries were successfully enrolled onto the scheme, ensuring improved access to essential healthcare services.
Representing the Upper East Regional Director of the NHIA, Dr. Salifu Kombat, was the Regional Operations Manager, Mr. Collins Anafure Gado. He was joined by the Upper East Regional Public Relations Manager, Mr. Alhassan Abubakari Suwaidu,, and other officials who supervised the registration exercise and interacted with community members throughout the event.
The NHIA team used the opportunity to encourage women, children, and other eligible residents to take advantage of the free registration exercise and remain active members of the National Health Insurance Scheme. They emphasised that enrolling in the scheme is an important step towards accessing affordable and timely healthcare without financial hardship.
Addressing participants in the local language, the Bolgatanga Municipal Manager of the NHIS Mr Roland Ayine highlighted the numerous benefits of NHIS membership, stressing that health insurance provides critical protection against unexpected medical expenses and contributes to improved health outcomes for individuals and families.

The collaboration between the NHIA and the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection demonstrates the shared commitment of both institutions to expanding healthcare access and strengthening social protection for vulnerable populations across the Upper East Region. Community members expressed appreciation for the initiative, noting that it would ease the financial burden of seeking medical care and improve the wellbeing of women and children in the district.
The exercise at Dachio stands as another example of the ongoing efforts by government agencies and their partners to promote inclusive healthcare coverage and ensure that no one is left behind in accessing essential health services.
