The people of Gaani have taken a major step toward improved healthcare delivery following the official sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of a Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound in the community.
For decades, residents of Gaani and surrounding areas have grappled with the absence of a nearby health facility, often travelling long distances to access basic medical care. Today’s ceremony therefore marks a significant milestone in addressing this long-standing challenge.
The project is the result of the commitment and dedication of the *Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central, Hon. Simon Aworigo, who successfully lobbied the *Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) to provide funding for the construction of the health facility. The CHPS compound will be built in line with Ghana Health Service standards, ensuring quality healthcare delivery at the community level.
When completed, the facility is expected to significantly improve access to primary healthcare services for residents, particularly women, children, and the elderly. Beyond healthcare delivery, the project is also anticipated to create employment opportunities for local artisans and community members during the construction phase and beyond.
The sod-cutting ceremony, held at the forecourt of the proposed health facility site in Gaani, was attended by *chiefs and elders of Gaani and Janania, representatives of the **Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), *Engineer Paul, and members of the local community. The event officially signaled the commencement of construction works and the beginning of a new chapter in healthcare provision for the area.
Addressing the gathering, Hon. Simon Aworigo appealed to community members to fully support the contractor and take ownership of the project by acting as watchdogs over the construction site. He emphasized the need to protect materials and equipment to ensure the project is completed on schedule and to standard.
Chiefs and elders from Gaani and Janania expressed their deep appreciation to the MP for what they described as a timely and life-changing intervention. They noted that the lack of a health facility had caused untold hardship over the years and praised the MP for prioritizing the welfare of the people. The traditional leaders offered prayers for Hon. Simon Aworigo and the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Faustina Abulu, urging them to work together in unity for the overall development of the municipality.
In their closing remarks, community members also thanked the MP for including Gaani in President John Dramani Mahama’s resetting agenda, which seeks to improve living conditions and expand access to essential social services across the country.
The construction of the CHPS compound stands as a testament to collaborative leadership and a shared commitment to improving the quality of life for the people of Navrongo Central.
