The Attorney General and Minister for Justice, as well as Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga East Constituency, Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, has broken ground for the construction of an ultramodern police station valued at GH¢6 million for the Bolgatanga East District Police Command.
The project, which is expected to significantly strengthen security infrastructure in the constituency, will include modern office facilities, residential accommodation for police officers, and a dedicated library for inmates—an innovative addition aimed at promoting rehabilitation within the justice system.
Addressing stakeholders at the ceremony, Dr. Ayine explained that the initiative is a personal intervention, financed through his own resources in collaboration with friends and associates in the private business sector, rather than through central government funding.
“This project is driven by my commitment to improving security and justice delivery in Bolgatanga East. It is not funded by central government but through support from myself and like-minded individuals who believe in giving back to society,” he stated.
He emphasized that the inclusion of a library facility within the police station is a deliberate effort to reform and rehabilitate inmates by encouraging reading, learning, and personal development while in custody.
According to him, the justice system must not only punish wrongdoing but also create opportunities for transformation.
“We must begin to see correctional facilities as places of reform, not just punishment. The library will give inmates access to knowledge and help them re-integrate into society as responsible citizens,” he added.
Dr. Ayine further noted that the construction of the police station forms part of a broader vision to enhance safety, law enforcement efficiency, and community trust in the Bolgatanga East Constituency.
He urged contractors to ensure quality work and adhere strictly to timelines, stressing that the project must meet modern standards befitting a growing district.
Residents and local stakeholders who attended the ceremony welcomed the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful, particularly in addressing security concerns and improving the working conditions of police personnel.
The project is expected to not only boost law enforcement capacity but also set a new standard for integrating rehabilitation-focused facilities within policing infrastructure in Ghana.
