Adongo Defends Procurement Practices, Emphasizes Value for Money in Constituency Projects

The Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central Constituency, Isaac Adongo, has reaffirmed his commitment to prudent financial management, stressing that delivering value for money remains central to his development agenda.

Speaking on concerns surrounding procurement costs, the MP acknowledged recurring disagreements with sections of the media over budget allocations for projects funded through his common fund. According to him, while some stakeholders often perceive his budgets as significantly lower than expected, his office consistently delivers quality outcomes within those limits.

“I normally have challenges with the media because when I present my budget, they feel it is sometimes three times lower than what they expect,” he explained. “But in the end, we deliver.”

Mr. Adongo cited specific examples to support his claims, including the procurement of carpets and furnishing projects, which he said were executed at considerably reduced costs compared to prevailing market estimates. He revealed that one such project was completed for less than GH¢270,000, while another similar undertaking cost about GH¢165,000.

The lawmaker attributed his cost-conscious approach to his experience in opposition, where limited resources required careful prioritization and efficiency. He noted that this principle has remained unchanged even in government.

“In opposition, the only way I could deliver for my people was to optimize the little resources available. I have carried that same principle into government,” he stated.

Mr. Adongo also dismissed allegations circulating in sections of the public that he had procured a grinding mill at an inflated cost of GH¢700,000. He described the claim as misleading, explaining that the figure being cited referred only to part of the project and not the entire facility.

According to him, the full grinding mill project includes not just the machine, but also the supporting infrastructure such as the building, drying areas, and operational setup, including staffing. He emphasized that the total cost of making the facility fully functional does not reach the amount being speculated.

The MP reiterated his commitment to transparency and accountability, assuring constituents that every project undertaken under his leadership is carefully managed to ensure efficiency and long-term benefit to the community.

His remarks come amid ongoing public discussions on government spending and the need for responsible use of public funds, particularly at the constituency level in Bolgatanga.
