The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has called on party supporters expressing frustration over job opportunities to remain committed and resist overtures from the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Speaking during his two-day “Thank You Tour” of the Upper East Region, Mr. Asiedu Nketiah cautioned that the NPP often targets dissatisfied members of the NDC, attempting to win them over with appealing promises.
“Those who feel overlooked are often the easiest targets. The NPP knows how to approach and convince you that your own party has neglected you,” he told party executives and supporters.
He warned that such frustrations, if not carefully managed, could lead members to make decisions they may later regret.
“When emotions take over, you may be tempted to leave your party, only to realise later that it was not the right choice,” he said while addressing a gathering in the Bulisa South Constituency.
Mr. Asiedu Nketiah questioned the credibility of the opposition’s promises, arguing that if the NPP’s system was truly beneficial, it would have consistently retained power.
Drawing a comparison between the two parties, he maintained that the NDC upholds fairness and inclusivity among its members.
“In the NDC, everyone is treated equally regardless of when they join. But in the NPP, newcomers often struggle to gain recognition and opportunities,” he asserted.
He further cautioned that defecting to another party could damage one’s political credibility and make it difficult to return.
“If you move from one party to another, people may begin to question your loyalty. It becomes difficult to rebuild trust,” he noted.
Using a local proverb to drive home his message, he added: “If you cannot find what you are looking for in your mother’s home, you should ask yourself whether you will find it in a rival’s home.”
His remarks come at a time when some NDC supporters have voiced concerns about limited access to employment opportunities under the current administration.
The nationwide tour is aimed at expressing gratitude to voters for their support in the 2024 general elections and strengthening the party’s connection with its grassroots base. Mr. Asiedu Nketiah was accompanied by government officials, national and constituency executives, as well as party supporters.
