
The late District Chief Executive for Bongo, Joseph Akasake Abaah, has been laid to rest in his hometown of Awaah in the Upper East Region, following a solemn burial ceremony that drew high-profile dignitaries and mourners from across the political divide.
The burial, held on Saturday, April 11, brought together prominent figures including the Majority Leader and Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga; the Upper East Regional Minister, Donatus Akamugri Atanga; the Member of Parliament for Bongo; as well as Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), assembly members, traditional authorities, queen mothers, and party supporters from both the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party.
The gathering reflected the widespread respect and admiration Mr. Abaah commanded during his years of public service.
Appointed as District Chief Executive in 2025, Mr. Abaah brought with him a wealth of experience, having served as an assembly member for over 12 years. His long-standing dedication at the grassroots level made him one of the most experienced local government figures within the NDC in the area.
Speakers at the burial service paid glowing tribute to his legacy, describing him as a selfless, committed, and people-centered leader whose contributions significantly impacted the development of the Bongo District. They emphasized that his leadership style, humility, and devotion to duty would remain a lasting memory among the people he served.
According to party officials, Mr. Abaah passed away on February 22, 2026, after a short illness. He died at the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment prior to his demise.
The leadership of the NDC, which confirmed his death to Bolga FM, expressed deep sorrow over the loss, noting that the party and the district had lost a loyal and hardworking servant.
As family, friends, and colleagues bid their final farewell, the life and service of Joseph Akasake Abaah stand as a testament to dedication, grassroots leadership, and unwavering commitment to community development.
