NDC Bongo Communication Aspirant Says Party Faithful Miss His Voice, Cites Track Record

David Asanga Awine, aspirant for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Bongo Constituency Communication Officer position, has declared that party faithful are calling for his return, insisting that competence rather than personal relationships should determine who leads the communication wing.
Speaking further on the Bluewaves Breakfast Show, Awine said the core problem in local politics is that delegates sometimes vote based on friendship and family ties instead of ability. “People vote for whoever they are related to, without looking at a fellow’s capabilities, potential, and ability to project our core value accountability, social justice, and the rule of law,” he stated. “When it comes to communication, I cannot pretend. I have done this my entire life.”
He claimed the New Patriotic Party (NPP) celebrated his exit after the last internal election because they feared his influence. “Just two days later, I was walking through the streets of Bongo, and the NPP folks were laughing at me. They said, ‘We are happy you are gone,’” Awine recalled. “Because the NPP feared my voice. They knew I was a voice that the people of Bongo loved so much.”
Awine pointed to his body of work on platforms such as TV XYZ and online searches as evidence of his output. He also highlighted his membership of the NDC’s regional communication team, noting that Regional Communication Director Honourable Jonathan Abdallah Salifu personally invited him to join after he lost the constituency race. “He said, ‘With the kind of input you give to the party, you cannot just go back and relax,’” Awine said.
According to the aspirant, NDC supporters now express regret over the previous choice. “They call me every day saying, ‘David, we miss your voice. You are the voice that Bongo wants,’” he told listeners. He likened past experiences with underperforming figures to the erstwhile “Akuff Addo” administration, arguing that the people of Bongo are now urging the party to “try David.”
On his relationship with the incumbent communication officer, Awine described it as “very excellent,” revealing that the current holder is his elder brother. He stressed that his claim of superior capability is not an insult. “Everybody has his strengths and weaknesses. What I am saying is that I am more capable,” he said. “Giving me the communication officer role is one of the best things that can happen to this constituency.”
Awine recalled that after losing the 2022 contest, he stepped back to allow the new officer space to build on the standards he had set. However, persistent public demand and the regional invitation convinced him to contest again. “The voice of the people is the voice of God,” he declared. “The people of Bongo deserve the best, and I am ready to give them that voice again.”
The remarks form part of Awine’s ongoing campaign as internal NDC elections approach in the Bongo Constituency.
