NDC Government Is Insensitive to Teachers — NPP’s Sulemana Hudu Hits Hard at Government Over Ongoing Strike

A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Upper East Regional Communications Team, Sulemana Hudu, has criticised the government over the ongoing nationwide strike by teacher unions, describing its handling of the situation as insensitive to the concerns of teachers.

Speaking on the BlueWaves Breakfast Show, Mr Hudu expressed concern about the impact of the strike on teaching and learning, particularly its effect on schoolchildren whose education has been disrupted.

He called on the government to engage the leadership of the teacher unions in meaningful negotiations and work towards a lasting resolution to the issues that triggered the industrial action.

According to him, the continued closure of classrooms is creating difficulties for students and parents, while also putting further pressure on the already disrupted academic calendar.

Mr Hudu urged the government to treat the concerns raised by teachers with urgency and demonstrate greater commitment towards resolving the impasse.

However, responding to the concerns on the same programme, Vitus Akoligeya Apana, a member of the NDC Upper East Regional Communications Team, defended the government’s approach to the situation.

Mr Apana maintained that the government has the capacity and commitment to address issues affecting teachers, but said some of the concerns require time and careful engagement to resolve comprehensively.

He appealed for patience, stressing that the government wants to address the outstanding issues in a manner that will provide a lasting solution rather than a temporary settlement.

The exchange between the two communicators highlighted the growing political debate surrounding the teachers’ strike, with the opposition demanding urgent action while the governing NDC maintains that the issues are being addressed through engagement and negotiation.
