NHIA Upper East Marks May Day with Renewed Commitment to Quality Healthcare and Free Registration Drive

The Upper East Regional Office of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has joined the global community in celebrating International Workers’ Day, paying glowing tribute to its hardworking staff for their unwavering dedication to quality healthcare service delivery across the region.

In a message to commemorate the day, the Acting Regional Director, Dr. Salifu Kombat, applauded the commitment, resilience, and professionalism of staff, whose tireless efforts continue to advance the Authority’s mission of providing accessible and affordable healthcare to all Ghanaians. He noted that their contributions remain instrumental in strengthening the NHIA’s impact and improving health outcomes within communities.

“Today, we celebrate the dedication and sacrifices of our staff, whose work continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of many,” he stated. “Your commitment to excellence is the backbone of our success as an institution.”

This year’s May Day celebration is held under the theme: “Pivoting to Growth, Jobs and Sustainable Livelihood Beyond Macroeconomic Stability: The Role of the Union.” The theme underscores the importance of collective effort, innovation, and strategic direction in driving sustainable development and job creation, while highlighting the critical role of unions in safeguarding workers’ welfare.

As part of the celebrations, the NHIA Upper East Regional Office took to the principal streets of Bolgatanga in a vibrant procession aimed at engaging and educating the public. The march served as a platform to sensitize residents on the Authority’s ongoing free registration exercise, which is expected to run until May 31, 2026. The initiative seeks to expand health insurance coverage and ensure that more citizens benefit from essential healthcare services without financial hardship.

Dr. Kombat emphasized the importance of public participation in the registration exercise, urging residents to take advantage of the opportunity to enroll or renew their membership under the scheme. He reiterated the Authority’s commitment to leaving no one behind in the quest for universal health coverage.

He further called on staff to remain united, focused, and steadfast in their duties, stressing that continuous teamwork and dedication are vital to achieving the NHIA’s long-term goals.

The May Day celebration not only highlighted the invaluable contributions of workers but also reinforced the NHIA’s resolve to enhance service delivery and deepen public awareness of its programs.

As the region reflects on the significance of the day, the message remains clear: the collective efforts of committed workers are central to building a healthier and more resilient Ghana.
