National Democratic Congress (NDC) Upper East Regional Secretary aspirant, Pallas Apuakasi, says his years of service at the party’s Regional Secretariat have equipped him with the experience, institutional knowledge and political understanding needed to lead the office.
Mr Apuakasi, who has worked closely with key figures in the party’s regional leadership, believes his familiarity with the operations of the Secretariat gives him an advantage as he seeks to become the next Regional Secretary.
He made the remarks during an interview on BlueWaves Breakfast Show, where he outlined his experience within the party and appealed to delegates to support his ambition.
Experience at the Regional Secretariat
Mr Apuakasi said his decision to contest the Regional Secretary position was informed by the experience he had acquired while serving under the outgoing Regional Secretary, Donatus Akamugri Atanga, who is now the Upper East Regional Minister, and the NDC Upper East Regional Chairman, Alhaji Mumuni Bolnaba.
According to him, the two party leaders invited him to assist in serving the NDC at the regional level, an opportunity he said he readily accepted.
He explained that his involvement in the party’s regional administration had exposed him to the demands of the office and the responsibilities associated with coordinating party activities and supporting the regional leadership.
Mr Apuakasi also disclosed that he served as Secretary to the regional reconciliation committee, working closely with Alhaji Bolnaba and Mr Atanga during his time with the party’s regional leadership.
He believes the experience has provided him with practical knowledge of the party’s internal structures, the importance of reconciliation and the need to maintain unity among members.
Highlights Continued Working Relationship with Regional Minister
The NDC aspirant further emphasised his longstanding working relationship with Mr Atanga, noting that their collaboration did not end with his service at the Regional Secretariat.
He said he continues to provide political service to the Regional Minister, a relationship he believes has further strengthened his understanding of the political dynamics of the region.
“The experience I have gotten in the Secretariat over the period gives me the opportunity to understand the reality of the office. I have worked closely with Donatus Atanga Akamugri and I continue to work closely with him,” Mr Apuakasi said.
He maintained that his familiarity with the workings of the Secretariat would enable him to approach the responsibilities of Regional Secretary with a clear understanding of the office and its expectations.
Appeals to Delegates for Support
As the contest for the position gathers attention within the NDC in the Upper East Region, Mr Apuakasi has appealed to party delegates to give him the mandate to serve as Regional Secretary.
He said he intends to bring his political knowledge, administrative experience and understanding of the party’s regional operations to bear on the work of the NDC.
His appeal centres on the experience he has accumulated through his service to the party and his working relationships with members of the regional leadership.
Mr Apuakasi believes that this background has prepared him to contribute to the effective functioning of the Regional Secretariat and the broader organisational work of the party in the region.
The Regional Secretary position is an important administrative role within the party’s regional structure, with responsibilities linked to coordination, communication and the implementation of party decisions.
For Mr Apuakasi, his ambition represents an opportunity to build on his previous service and apply the lessons learned at the Secretariat to the party’s future activities in the Upper East Region.
He is therefore urging delegates to consider his experience and political service as they prepare to decide who should occupy the position.
