The Upper East Regional Police Commander, DCOP John Ferguson Dzineku, has appealed to members of the Talensi Mining Communities Initiative (TAMCI) and residents involved in the recent demonstration to remain calm, exercise patience, and conduct themselves within the confines of the law as efforts are made to address their concerns.
Speaking during the demonstration, DCOP Dzineku acknowledged the constitutional right of citizens to express their grievances through lawful demonstrations but stressed that such actions must be carried out peacefully without violence, destruction of property, or actions capable of disturbing public order.
According to him, the Ghana Police Service remains committed to protecting the rights of all citizens while ensuring peace, security, and stability within the region.
He urged demonstrators to avoid confrontations and cooperate with security agencies to ensure that the situation does not escalate into unrest.
“Citizens have the right to demonstrate and express their concerns, but it is important that these actions are done peacefully and within the laws of the country,” he stated.
DCOP Dzineku further assured the demonstrators that the concerns raised during the protest would not be ignored, revealing that steps were already being taken to engage the Upper East Regional Minister, traditional authorities, community leaders, and management of Cardinal Namdini Mining Limited to seek amicable solutions through dialogue.
He explained that security authorities are committed to facilitating peaceful discussions between all parties involved to ensure that the grievances of the communities are properly addressed.
According to the Regional Police Commander, constructive engagement and mutual understanding remain the best approaches to resolving disputes between companies and host communities.
“Demonstration may draw attention to issues, but dialogue, cooperation, and understanding are what bring lasting solutions and sustainable peace,” DCOP Dzineku emphasized.
He also advised the youth and community members against allowing misinformation, provocation, or emotional reactions to fuel tension in the area, stressing the need for restraint and responsible conduct throughout the process.
DCOP Dzineku reaffirmed the commitment of the Ghana Police Service to maintaining peace and protecting lives and property while supporting all lawful efforts aimed at resolving the concerns raised by the demonstrators.
