Cardinal Namdini Mining Limited has responded to allegations levelled against the company during the recent demonstration by members of the Talensi Mining Communities Initiative (TAMCI), assuring residents of its commitment to transparency, accountability, and community development.
Speaking in response to the concerns raised, Mr. Kofi Adusie, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager for Cardinal Namdini Mining Limited, stated that the company is actively engaging host communities through a Social Responsibility Agreement framework designed to promote benefit-sharing and sustainable development.
According to him, the initiative seeks to strengthen the relationship between the mining company and the affected communities while creating opportunities for projects that directly improve the lives of residents.
Mr. Adusie explained that under the arrangement, community leaders and company officials jointly develop clear operational modalities, establish committees and boards, and monitor the utilization of resources allocated for developmental projects.
“The goal is to ensure transparency, accountability, and active community participation so that everyone understands the benefits and how the projects are implemented for the development of the area,” he noted.
Addressing concerns regarding employment and workers’ welfare, Mr. Adusie disclosed that the company currently employs about 258 direct staff in Accra, in addition to several contractors engaged in mining, engineering, planning, and other support services.
He explained that Cardinal Namdini Mining Limited employs both permanent and casual workers, particularly for short-term and project-based assignments following the completion of major construction works. According to him, such employment arrangements are standard practice across the mining industry, including at long-established mines such as Obuasi Mine.
Mr. Adusie further assured workers and contractors that salaries are paid promptly and encouraged anyone experiencing payment-related challenges to formally report them for immediate resolution.
He stressed that the company has not received any official complaints concerning unpaid salaries from workers or contractors.
