The Member of Parliament for Talensi, Daniel Dung Mahama, has lauded the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for implementing key development projects in the constituency, while urging the party to intensify efforts in job creation and infrastructure expansion.
He made these remarks at the palace of Tongraan Kugblisong Nanlebegtang during a courtesy visit by the NDC National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, as part of his two-day working tour of the Upper East Region.
Mr. Mahama attributed the ongoing developments in Talensi to the party’s “resetting agenda,” noting that significant progress has been made across multiple sectors.
“By the grace of God, we have made considerable strides. Over the past year, a number of impactful projects have been executed,” he stated.
He highlighted major interventions, including the construction of two school facilities, the establishment of CHPS compounds, the commissioning of a children’s ward, distribution of fertiliser to support dry-season farming, and the drilling of over 25 boreholes to improve access to water.
Touching on the energy sector, the MP indicated that measures are underway to address electricity challenges and enhance power supply within the constituency.
In the area of education, he revealed that the Talensi E-Block has been upgraded into a fully operational senior high school, with additional infrastructure currently under development.
“The E-Block has now been transformed into a complete secondary school. We are putting up dormitories, staff accommodation, and fencing the school land to support its expansion,” he explained.
Mr. Mahama also commended Mr. Asiedu Nketiah for his longstanding relationship with the constituency, describing him as a dedicated ally who remains deeply connected to the people of Talensi.
“Talensi is always at his fingertips whenever you engage him. This reflects his commitment and affection for the constituency,” he said.
Reaffirming the area’s political stance, the MP stressed that Talensi has consistently remained loyal to the NDC.
“We have always stood with the NDC, and we will continue to do so. We appreciate the party’s contributions to our development,” he added.
Despite the gains made, Mr. Mahama expressed concern over limited employment opportunities and inadequate political appointments for residents, describing the situation as a major challenge.
“In terms of jobs and appointments, Talensi is lagging behind. We are appealing for increased opportunities for our people,” he emphasised.
He further called on the party’s leadership to sustain and expand development initiatives to improve livelihoods and meet the expectations of constituents.
Mr. Asiedu Nketiah’s visit to Talensi forms part of a broader regional tour, which includes stops in Bongo, Nabdam, and Bolgatanga East. The tour is aimed at expressing gratitude to voters for their support in the 2024 general elections and strengthening the party’s grassroots engagement.
