Football excitement is building across the Upper East Region as preparations intensify for the 2026/2027 Upper East Regional Division Two League, which is expected to officially kick off on November 13, 2026.

The upcoming season promises another exciting chapter in the region’s football development, with 25 clubs distributed across three competitive zones, all hoping to secure a place in the Middle League and ultimately earn promotion to the National Division One League.

With established contenders seeking to maintain their dominance, ambitious newcomers eager to make an immediate impact, and returning clubs determined to rebuild their fortunes, the competition is shaping up to be one of the most intriguing regional football campaigns.

THREE ZONES, ONE DREAM

The 25 participating clubs have been divided into three zones, with Zone One featuring nine teams, while Zones Two and Three each contain eight clubs.

Under the qualification arrangement, the two best-performing clubs in each zone will advance to the Middle League, where they will compete for the ultimate prize: qualification to the National Division One League.

The structure leaves little room for complacency. Every point could prove decisive, particularly in the closing stages of the zonal competitions, when the pressure to secure one of the two qualification places is expected to intensify.

ZONE ONE: NAVRONGO LIBERTY STARS LEAD THE CHALLENGE

Zone One features nine clubs, making it the largest group in the upcoming campaign.

The participating teams are Navrongo Liberty Stars, Real Builsa United, Wiaga United FC, Saboro FC, Navrongo Mission Warriors, Paga Japan SC, Paga Crocodile Stars, Sirigu Super Stars and Biu Union Stars.

Navrongo Liberty Stars and Paga Crocodile Stars will attract attention following their qualification for last season’s Middle League. Both sides will be looking to build on that experience and strengthen their ambitions of progressing further this time around.

However, the competition is unlikely to be straightforward. Real Builsa United, Wiaga United FC, Saboro FC, Navrongo Mission Warriors, Paga Japan SC and Sirigu Super Stars will all be looking to establish themselves as serious contenders.

Biu Union Stars, one of the clubs entering the competition from Division Three, will also have an opportunity to demonstrate their readiness for the higher level.

The challenge for the newcomers will be adapting quickly to the demands of Division Two football, where consistency, squad depth and the ability to collect points away from home can make a significant difference.

With nine clubs competing for just two Middle League places, Zone One could produce one of the tightest qualification battles of the season.

ZONE TWO: BOLGA SOCCER MASTERS FACE A NEW CHALLENGE

Zone Two brings together Real Bolga United FC, Bolga Soccer Masters FC, Bolga Soccer Stars FC, Union Uppers SC, Winkogo Dynamic Sharpers, Sheaga A-Real Town FC, Bolga FC and Walewale Catholic Stars.

Bolga Soccer Masters FC will be among the teams to watch after qualifying for last season’s Middle League. Their experience from the previous campaign could prove valuable as they seek another opportunity to challenge for promotion.

Real Bolga United FC, Bolga Soccer Stars FC, Bolga FC and Union Uppers SC will also be eager to establish themselves among the leading sides.

Union Uppers SC, formerly known as Bolga All Stars SC, return to the regional Division Two competition after their involvement in the National Division One League. Their return adds an interesting dimension to the zone, although they will need to demonstrate their readiness to compete under the current circumstances.

For Union Uppers, the campaign represents an opportunity to rebuild momentum and pursue a fresh route back to the national stage.

Winkogo Dynamic Sharpers and Walewale Catholic Stars will also be looking to upset the established order, while Sheaga A-Real Town FC arrive from Division Three with the ambition of making a strong impression in their first season at this level.

The presence of several clubs with promotion ambitions makes Zone Two particularly difficult to predict. The battle for the top two positions could depend heavily on consistency, effective recruitment and the ability to perform under pressure.

ZONE THREE: A WIDE-OPEN BATTLE FOR MIDDLE LEAGUE PLACES

Zone Three comprises Tilli Awarey Stars, Toende United FC, Yelwoko Wingers SC, Kassena Nankana United, Samba Stars FC, Bongo Young Reformers, Sapeliga Black Arrows and Bulls FC Zuarungu.

Samba Stars FC will enter the season with valuable experience after qualifying for last season’s Middle League.

Bulls FC Zuarungu, formerly Zorkor United, will also be seeking to build on their previous campaign and establish themselves among the leading contenders.

The zone also features Toende United FC, another newcomer from Division Three, who will be eager to make a positive start to life in the regional second tier.

Tilli Awarey Stars, Yelwoko Wingers SC, Kassena Nankana United, Bongo Young Reformers and Sapeliga Black Arrows complete a group in which the fight for the two Middle League places is expected to be intense.

For clubs hoping to progress, a strong start could be crucial. Dropped points in the early rounds may leave teams under pressure as the competition approaches its decisive stages.

Although last season’s experience could give Samba Stars and Bulls FC Zuarungu an advantage, the other clubs will have an opportunity to challenge their credentials.

BEREKUM CITY FC SET THE STANDARD AFTER HISTORIC PROMOTION

One of the biggest talking points heading into the new season is the achievement of Berekum City FC, who emerged as champions of the previous Upper East Regional Division Two League and secured qualification to the National Division One League.

Their success represents a significant milestone for football in the region and provides a clear example of what clubs can aspire to achieve through a successful campaign.

Berekum City’s departure from the regional competition creates an opening for a new champion to emerge.

It also raises an important question for the remaining contenders: which club has the quality, organisation and consistency required to follow in their footsteps?

Navrongo Liberty Stars, Paga Crocodile Stars, Bolga Soccer Masters and Samba Stars will be among the clubs drawing attention because of their previous Middle League qualification.

Bulls FC Zuarungu, formerly Zorkor United, will also have an opportunity to demonstrate their progress, while other teams will be determined to break into the leading group.

However, previous achievements alone will not guarantee success. Every club will have to prove its quality on the pitch when the new campaign begins.

NEWCOMERS AND RETURNING CLUBS ADD FRESH COMPETITION

The 2026/2027 season will also provide an opportunity for three Division Three graduates to test themselves against more experienced opposition.

Sheaga A-Real Town FC, Biu Union Stars and Toende United FC are the newcomers identified for the campaign.

Their arrival adds fresh energy to the competition and gives the clubs an opportunity to demonstrate the progress they have made through the lower divisions.

For the newcomers, the immediate priority will be adjusting to the demands of Division Two football, building competitive squads and accumulating enough points to remain in contention for the Middle League places.

Union Uppers SC, formerly Bolga All Stars SC, will be another club attracting attention following their return from the National Division One League.

Their experience at the national level could be useful, but the club will still need to translate that experience into results against determined regional opponents.

The performances of these clubs could become some of the most interesting storylines of the new season.

THE ROAD TO THE MIDDLE LEAGUE

The qualification system means that only six clubs will advance from the zonal stage, with two teams emerging from each of the three zones.

For the clubs involved, the Middle League represents more than another competition. It is the gateway to the National Division One League and an opportunity to elevate their footballing ambitions.

The pressure will therefore be significant, particularly for clubs that have invested in strengthening their squads and improving their preparations.

Coaches will need to strike the right balance between attacking ambition and defensive discipline. A team capable of winning its home matches while collecting crucial away points could gain a significant advantage.

Squad depth, injury management, tactical flexibility and effective leadership will also be important factors throughout the campaign.

For supporters, meanwhile, the zonal format promises local rivalries, competitive encounters and opportunities to follow the development of their clubs.

A TEST OF FOOTBALL DEVELOPMENT IN THE UPPER EAST REGION

Beyond the race for promotion, the regional Division Two League remains an important platform for football development in the Upper East Region.

The competition provides players with opportunities to develop their abilities, coaches with a platform to demonstrate their technical knowledge, and clubs with an opportunity to build sustainable football structures.

The success of the league should therefore not be measured solely by the identity of the eventual champions.

Attention must also be given to player development, youth opportunities, coaching standards, officiating, club administration, supporter engagement and the overall organisation of the competition.

Clubs will benefit from investing in proper training programmes, disciplined financial management, medical support for players and effective communication with supporters.

The organisers, clubs and other football stakeholders also have a shared responsibility to promote fair play, respect for match officials and the safety of everyone attending matches.

If properly managed, the competition can contribute meaningfully to the growth of football in the region and help identify players capable of progressing to higher levels of the game.

CONCLUSION: THE COUNTDOWN BEGINS

With the expected November 13 kickoff approaching, the countdown to the 2026/2027 Upper East Regional Division Two League has begun.

Twenty-five clubs will enter the competition with different ambitions, but they share one major objective: securing a place in the Middle League and moving a step closer to the National Division One League.

The previous campaign demonstrated that clubs from the region can compete for promotion and achieve significant milestones, with Berekum City FC ultimately emerging as champions and earning their place in Division One.

Now, the opportunity belongs to the remaining contenders.

Will Navrongo Liberty Stars, Paga Crocodile Stars, Bolga Soccer Masters or Samba Stars build on their previous Middle League experience? Can Bulls FC Zuarungu continue their progress? Will Union Uppers SC make a strong return? And can the newly promoted clubs upset the established order?

These questions will begin to find answers when the league gets underway.

For now, one thing is certain: the road to the Middle League promises competition, ambition and another important chapter in the football story of the Upper East Region.
