Zuarungu, Upper East Region — The Public Relations Unit of the Zuarungu Nursing and Midwifery Training College has dismissed as false and misleading claims circulating on social media suggesting that newly admitted students are stranded at the institution due to a lack of classrooms and accommodation.
The clarification follows a TikTok video circulating online under the caption, “Zuarungu’s Newly Admitted Student Nurse Stranded Over Lack of Classrooms.”
According to the College’s Public Relations Unit, the claims do not reflect the current situation at the institution and could create unnecessary anxiety among prospective students, parents, and other stakeholders.
First-year students yet to report
The College explained that no first-year student has reported to campus yet, contrary to the impression created by the viral video.
First-year students are scheduled to report on October 5, 2026, while renovation works are currently ongoing at portions of the College.
The institution said the renovation is linked to the fire incident that affected parts of the College last year. It added that preparations are being made to ensure that the necessary facilities and arrangements are in place before the new students arrive and academic activities begin.
College disputes 300-student claim
The College also rejected a claim in the video that about 300 new students are expected to report to the institution.
According to the PR Unit, the College will be admitting 246 students into the Bachelor of Science (BSc) programme, alongside students in its three existing programmes.
The College argued that the figures do not support the suggestion that the institution is facing an unprecedented increase in student numbers that would create an immediate accommodation or classroom crisis.
It noted that 458 final-year students have completed their studies and left the institution this year, while the number of new students being admitted is 246.
The College believes this transition provides important context when assessing the institution’s available space and capacity.
Fire-damaged areas nearing completion
The PR Unit further highlighted ongoing efforts to restore portions of the College affected by the fire outbreak.
It acknowledged the support of the Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga East, Dr Dominic Ayine, and other stakeholders who have contributed to efforts to restore the affected facilities.
According to the College, work on some of the affected areas has progressed significantly and is nearing completion.
No need for four additional lecture halls
The College also rejected another claim in the viral video that it requires four additional lecture halls before lectures can commence.
The institution said the claim is inaccurate and assured stakeholders that arrangements have been made to facilitate teaching and learning when students report.
The College maintained that classroom space and accommodation, particularly for first-year students, will not prevent the commencement of academic activities.
Call for responsible information sharing
The Zuarungu Nursing and Midwifery Training College has consequently urged parents, prospective students, stakeholders, and members of the public to rely on information released through the institution’s official communication channels.
The PR Unit cautioned against the circulation of unverified information, particularly on social media, saying such reports have the potential to create unnecessary fear and confusion among students and parents.
The College reaffirmed its commitment to serving the public with humility, honesty, professionalism, and transparency, while assuring stakeholders of its preparedness to receive the new batch of students.
The institution said it remains focused on ensuring a smooth transition for the incoming students and maintaining an environment conducive to teaching and learning.
