Jonathan Abdallah Salifu Declares Interest in NDC Upper East Regional Secretary Position

Bolgatanga, Upper East Region — September 15, 2026:

The Upper East Regional Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Jonathan Abdallah Salifu, has expressed his intention to contest the position of Upper East Regional Secretary of the party when nominations open.

Mr. Salifu made his intention known in a Facebook post cited by BlueWaves Radio on Monday, September 14, 2026, in which he outlined his political experience, commitment to the NDC and his vision for strengthening the party’s structures in the region.

Under the headline “A Record Built Through Service. A Leadership Ready for the Region,” Mr. Salifu highlighted his more than two decades of involvement in the NDC, saying his political journey had taken him through the branch, constituency and regional structures of the party.

He noted that his journey began as a Branch Executive at Tindonsoe in 2006, before serving as Deputy Constituency Youth Organiser and later Constituency Secretary for Bolgatanga Central. He currently serves as the NDC’s Upper East Regional Communications Officer.

According to him, the experience gained over the years has provided him with a deep understanding of the party’s structures, grassroots politics and the organisational demands required to build an effective political party.

“Leadership is not about the position you hold. It’s about showing up, serving with integrity, knowing how the system works, and coming through when it matters most,” he stated.

Mr. Salifu said his decision to seek the position followed deep reflection and extensive consultations with party stakeholders, adding that he was offering his experience, energy and commitment to the service of the NDC in the Upper East Region.

He appealed to government appointees, former appointees, Members of Parliament, party executives at all levels, party elders and grassroots members to support his bid and give him the mandate to serve as Regional Secretary.

He further stressed the need for unity, experience, organisation and renewed energy, saying his objective would be to help consolidate the gains made by the party, strengthen its structures and move the NDC in the Upper East Region forward.

Contest to Watch

Mr. Salifu’s declaration is expected to add further interest to the race for the NDC’s Upper East Regional Secretary position, a key administrative role within the party’s regional structure.

The position is currently held by Donatus Akamugri Atanga, who, according to records cited in the discussion surrounding the party’s regional leadership, has served in the position for an extended period and is regarded as one of the party’s long-serving regional executives.

With Mr. Salifu now publicly expressing his interest, attention is expected to turn to other potential aspirants and the direction of the contest as the party prepares for its next round of internal elections.

Mr. Salifu ended his declaration by reaffirming his commitment to the NDC and calling for collective efforts to strengthen the party’s organisational structures across the region.
