UE: NPP Questions Ayine’s Assurances on Kulaa Bridge, Says Residents Still Await Visible Progress
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Upper East Region has questioned repeated assurances by the Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga East, Dr Dominic Ayine, regarding the completion of the Kulaa Bridge, insisting that residents are yet to see significant physical progress on the project.
The party expressed concern over what it described as a recurring pattern in which public pressure, media engagements and planned demonstrations by concerned youth appear to coincide with fresh assurances about the project.
According to the NPP, residents of the Upper East Region, despite their continued loyalty and support for the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), should not be made to endure prolonged delays in the completion of a project it considers critical to their economic and social well-being.
The party further referenced the 2026 Budget Statement, which reportedly indicates that the road project is 95 per cent complete, and questioned why outstanding works, particularly those relating to the Kulaa Bridge, remain unfinished despite repeated commitments.
“Almost two years into the current administration, the people deserve a clear explanation, a credible timetable and visible progress,” the party stated.
The NPP acknowledged the government’s August 2026 announcement of a new financing arrangement and its commitment to completing the project by the end of 2027.
However, it maintained that announcements of financial arrangements and the presence of construction equipment at the project site should not be mistaken for actual progress.
The party is therefore calling for a clear explanation of the delays and concrete steps towards completing the outstanding works.
The controversy over the Kulaa Bridge continues to raise questions about the pace of infrastructure delivery in the Upper East Region, with residents hoping that the latest assurances will translate into tangible action and the eventual completion of the project.
