The Upper East Region is experiencing a revival in rural electrification, the emergence of 24-hour economic markets, and major infrastructure works in secondary schools under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, according to Sampson Samari, Deputy NDC Regional Youth Organizer for the region.
Speaking on development progress , as the region delivered all 15 parliamentary seats and strong presidential support to the NDC, Samari acknowledged that the party has not solved every problem in the Upper East. He insisted, however, that tangible improvements are visible across districts.
“Go to every district. We are seeing 24-hour economic markets springing now to boost development,” he said. On rural electrification, he contrasted the current situation with the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) era, claiming the programme had been “thrown to the box” under the NPP.
“Today what do we see? Go to the various districts… Rural electrification is seriously back. Contractors are back to site, working with the speed of light to ensure that every Ghanaian… get to benefit from electricity,” Samari stated.
He noted that GETFund last year awarded over 80 projects in the region, with most secondary schools now witnessing “massive infrastructure development.” Numerous other construction projects are ongoing, he added.
Samari criticised the previous administration for limited visible impact, pointing out that a former president’s visit resulted mainly in the commissioning of an ultra-modern street light an event the then regional minister would declined to associate with in commissioning. He said growth sectors are improving and that residents should be reassured the Upper East will receive its fair share under the NDC.
Projects that had stalled in areas including Bawku Central, Garu, Tempane and Talensi have restarted, according to Samari, who said he has personally visited several of these locations.
Addressing perceptions that the Upper East has been left behind particularly on issues such as the airport and other major infrastructure Samari framed the ongoing works as evidence that the region stands to benefit more under continued NDC leadership, urging voters to deliver a clean sweep of the 15 parliamentary seats and the presidential vote.
