Presiding Member Lambert Akunzebe leads Assembly as it collects GHS 1.6 million in first half of 2026
The Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly has recorded a solid first-half performance in Internally Generated Funds (IGF), collecting approximately GHS 1.6 million between January and June 2026. The figure represents about 43.2% of its total budgeted IGF for the year.
The outturn marks an improvement over the same period in 2025, when the Assembly achieved 38.4% of its budgeted IGF a gain of roughly 4.8 percentage points.
Presiding Member Lambert Akunzebe, the Assembly Member for Bolga-Soe who was elected to the position in June 2026, has overseen the municipality’s efforts to strengthen local revenue mobilisation while maintaining essential services and delivering infrastructure despite delays in the District Assemblies Common Fund.
Even the second-quarter Common Fund tranche has yet to be released, yet the Assembly reports that day-to-day administration, support for the vulnerable, and maintenance of key public assets continue uninterrupted.
“Revenue is improving, but the Assembly is also doing more with less,” an official update from the Assembly stated.
Key projects delivered and underway
The Assembly recently commissioned two kindergarten (KG) blocks at Yorogo-Gabisi and Doringo. The projects, valued at more than GHS 1 million in total, were fully funded by the Assembly.
It has also assumed responsibility for maintaining streetlights after contractors hand them over, the costly of the assembly to maintain necessary task.
In the education sector, renovations are ongoing at preparatory school. Plans are advanced to procure 169 dual desks, 599 mono desks and 128 hexagonal tables, to be financed through the Assembly’s own resources or local IGF.
On the health front, Community based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds are under construction at Tanzui and Sawaba. The CHPS facility at Zaare has been completed and is expected to be handed over shortly.
Collaboration with the Member of Parliament
Addressing questions about the ownership of certain projects, the Assembly emphasised that it works closely with the Member of Parliament rather than in isolation.
“The MP and the Assembly collaborate,” officials noted. “Sometimes the Assembly lobbies through the MP; sometimes the MP lobbies through the Assembly. It is neither here nor there.”
