Bolgatanga Police Raise Alarm Over Rising Motorbike Snatching Ahead of Christmas

The Bolgatanga Municipal Police Command has expressed concern over a noticeable increase in reported cases of motorbike snatching in the municipality as the Christmas season draws near.

According to the Police, the spike in incidents is largely linked to increased social activities and late-night movements associated with the festive period, making residents more vulnerable to criminal attacks. The Command has therefore issued a strong caution to the general public to remain alert and take personal safety seriously, especially during night-time outings.

Speaking over the weekend, the Bolgatanga Municipal Police Commander, Superintendent Kweku Ayepah, urged residents to avoid moving alone after dark, particularly when returning from social gatherings, entertainment centres, and festive events. He advised the public to move in groups of five to ten people, stressing that “there is safety in numbers,” which significantly reduces the chances of criminals targeting individuals.

Superintendent Ayepah explained that many of the reported motorbike snatching cases occur in poorly lit areas and at late hours when victims are isolated. He therefore encouraged residents to plan their movements carefully, use well-lit routes, and remain vigilant at all times.

The Municipal Police Commander made these remarks while addressing participants at a clean-up exercise organised by the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly as part of activities marking the National Sanitation Day. He used the platform to combine public health advocacy with crime prevention education, emphasizing the need for collective responsibility in maintaining both a clean and safe environment.

He further called on residents to promptly report any suspicious activities or persons to the Police, noting that timely information from the public plays a critical role in preventing crime and apprehending suspects.

The Bolgatanga Municipal Police Command reassured the public of its commitment to intensifying patrols and visibility across the municipality throughout the festive season to curb criminal activities and ensure a peaceful Christmas celebration for all.
