Seven months after a sod-cutting ceremony was held for the construction of a proposed Senior High School in the Sherigu Basengo community, work on the project is yet to begin.
On 20th August 2025, the Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central, Isaac Adongo, together with the Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive, Roland Ayoo Atanga, visited the Sherigu Basengo community to inspect the proposed site and officially cut the sod for the commencement of the project.
The construction of the Senior High School was announced as part of efforts to improve access to secondary education for residents of the community and surrounding areas within the Bolgatanga Municipality in the Upper East Region of Ghana.
At the time of the ceremony, the project generated excitement among residents, parents and students who believed the school would significantly reduce the burden of travelling long distances to access secondary education in other communities.
Speaking during the sod-cutting ceremony, Hon. Isaac Adongo indicated that the project was expected to be funded by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund). According to him, all necessary arrangements had been made for construction work to begin.
However, a recent visit to the site by the BlueWaves Radio News team revealed that construction work has not yet commenced, seven months after the official ceremony.
At the time of the visit, there was no contractor on site, and there were no visible signs of construction activity, raising concerns among residents about when the project will actually begin.
Members of the Sherigu Basengo community say they had welcomed the announcement of the school with great anticipation and are hopeful that work will soon start so the project can become a reality for the growing number of students in the area.
Residents are therefore calling on the relevant authorities to provide updates on the project and ensure that construction works begin as promised.
The community continues to look forward to the commencement of the much-anticipated Senior High School project, which many believe will greatly improve educational opportunities for young people in the area.
