NPP Youth Organizer Dredges Irrigation Canals in Gowrie, Vea and Yariga to Support Dry-Season Farmers

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Youth Organizer has undertaken a dredging exercise on irrigation canals serving farming communities in Gowrie, Vea and Yariga to improve water flow and support farmers engaged in dry-season farming.

According to reports, Inusah noticed during his routine activities that the canals had become heavily silted with sand and waste materials, raising concerns about possible disruptions to water supply and the impact on dry-season farming activities.

In response, he initiated the dredging exercise to restore the free flow of water and ensure that farmers who depend on the irrigation facilities have improved access to water for their farming activities.

The intervention is expected to ease some of the difficulties confronting farmers, particularly during the dry season when irrigation remains essential to sustaining agricultural production and livelihoods.

Beyond the dredging exercise, Inusah has also pledged to support farmers in settling debts they reportedly owe the Irrigation Company of Upper Region (ICOUR) over the past two years.

The commitment comes at a time when many farmers continue to grapple with financial challenges associated with dry-season farming, including the high cost of water and other essential agricultural inputs.

Farmers in the affected communities have reportedly welcomed the intervention, expressing hope that the dredging exercise and promised financial assistance will improve their farming activities and ease the burden of their outstanding obligations.

The intervention highlights the importance of community-driven initiatives and support for irrigation infrastructure in strengthening agriculture, improving food production and protecting the livelihoods of farmers in the Upper East Region.
